I don't have a lot of friends due to the isolation created by my illnesses and my self-medication.

Age 4 with Asperger's/ASD

Age 24 with OCD, MDD, Substance Use Disorder

Coming here has certainly helped me feel a lot less isolated, and there are quite a few here who understand how isolation so easily leads to the self-medication that you mentioned. You'll also find quite a few folks with similar interests to you (I'm a little bit of an amateur historian myself.)
