Ok, to be honest, I moved out of there almost a year ago after I had built up some professional experience before moving on.

The main economic activity in the area is oil and gas and various newspapers had considered it the #1 hottest economy in the US. People without much in the way of education or work experience have been plucked out of low service jobs and into the oil fields making high 5 figures and low 6 figures. The shortage of servicr workers have gotten so bad that that there's so much difficulty staffing up at local restaurants and stores and such.

It's also pretty isolated, being a 5 hour drive away from any major metro area (closest are El Paso, Albuquerque and Dallas.) A lot of people don't wish to live here due to the isolation and the desert landscape but I'd think it'll probably be more tolerable for an Aspie. Still, despite there only being maybe 250,000 ppl in this metro, I've hardly found anyone on this forum hailing from the Midland-Odessa area.

Anyways so why did I leave? I actually ended up here out of desperation several years ago after being unemployed for over a year (living in Dan Francisco before that) and due to the extreme shortage of professionals in the area, they disregarded my 1+ year employment gap. I worked my ass off for over a year but the opportunities dor further advancement in my field (data science) was pretty limited so I moved on to a different city (Dallas.)

Still, I'm curious how others, particularly Aspies, found this area.
