Hello, I got a diagnosis a few months ago, but have only just started looking into what it means. Reading though a few things it turns out I'm pretty normal for an "odd" person - bullied at school, suffered depression all my adult life. I'm currently being divorced by my second wife - who I still love, ironically she's a teacher specialising in ASD & it was her suggestion that started me looking into it ten years ago, when the doctor said "it's terribly difficult to get an assessment as an adult & anyway, what difference will it make?".

Well, it's ten years later, I got my assessment & the difference it makes is that 50 years of failing socially has become 50 years of doing quite well in the circumstances. Maybe when my life settles down a bit I'll be able to sort myself out a bit.

Or maybe not. Just now I could use some help - & maybe a hug.

Welcome to Wrong Planet! I was just assessed last year and I think it was a positive step, too!

(sends a cyber hug)

I'm also 58 years old.

I was diagnosed as a young child.

I'm another very late-diagnosed adult. Welcome to Wrong Planet.

WP has a lot of members in the U.K., so there are people here who can talk to you about issues specific to your country if/when you need that.

Welcome,

I'm another late diagnosed person. I hope a diagnosis brings some understanding, of yourself and hopefully from others.

I like that way of looking at it. I am 55 and without a formal diagnosis, just some very striking characteristics and high scores on the online tests I have taken; I was wondering whether there was any point in seeking a diagnosis but your comment has really made me think.

Welcome aboard!

The diagnosis has helped - still got too much "other" stuff to deal with, but knowing that some of the mistakes I've made are mistakes, not stupidity helps.

Big hugs to you. I am so sorry to hear about your divorce-in-progress, I know from experience that's a super unpleasant situation to be in. I hope it is possible for you to maintain a friendship with your new ex, once some time has passed.

Congratulations on your diagnosis and new perspective.
