Hello! I'm an Aspie, diagnosed in 2015 when I was 45.
I've been happily married for 19.5 years to a wonderful guy.
We have one child, a sixteen year old son who also has Asperger's.
He doesn't accept the diagnosis, even though he was diagnosed 8 years ago.
He says he has ADHD, which may be true since he has some of the characteristics.
We homeschool, which is rather interesting. I guess most people wouldn't expect an Aspie parent to teach the Aspie kid. I'm a special ed teacher, which I guess is also unexpected. I've been teaching since 1995.
It would be great to have an Aspie support group here but I didn't find one when I looked online just now.
Some days I think I'm normal and don't have autism. Other days I know I do. It's kind of hard to explain.
Does anyone else think it's hard to see their own diagnosis?

Welcome. I have not been assessed but I am on the list, so I don't know where I stand. I would have loved to be homeschooled as it would have saved me from a lot of situations.

Hi and welcome ! Good to have you with us! I too home educated my youngest son(he's about to turn 21yrs). Similarly, I too worked with children with SEN, and have three adult children on the spectrum, all doing very well, thankfully. Home Ed was a wonderful option! Hope you enjoy WP !

Hi HarrietismyHero, and welcome to WP from a newbie. I've been on here for a week or so.

I can't relate to HomeEd, so I'll leave that.

I have not yet been formally diagnosed (which hopefully will take place March next year) but my HFA symptoms are overwhelming. I'm 67 and only found out that I'm an Aspie less than 2 months ago. And finding out felt like a liberation for me. I'm not at all angry about it, I rather feel relief. Finally I have an explanation for all my behaviour that I know is deviant from neurotypicals.

Tell us more about how the home schooling went. Did you HS because of your son's ASD? Had he tried attending school? Would you recommend HS for ASD kids in general?
