Hi everyone
Just got diagnosed officially a few weeks ago before the lockdown in the UK.
Im relieved to find out and now just wanting to do as much as I can to work on myself and also embrace it.
I'm nearly 40 and have had several breakdowns since I was 16.
I've been on antidepressants since then to now and always been told it's depression and anxiety. I've seen various councellors and pyschologists but seem to be another one who has slipped through the net before there was much understanding about Asperger's and asd.
Looking forward to getting to know everyone.

Greetings from a fellow Brit! :D

Welcome to WP! :D

Hope embracing it with an eye to self-improvement works well for you (I think it has for me, but I’m biased there so :P )

Hi, and a warm welcome to Wrong Planet.

You're in good company. Lots of WP members have been diagnosed as adults. I was diagnosed with aspergers whilst admitted in psychiatric ward after a nasty breakdown and have experienced similar kind of misdiagnosis.

Hi and a very warm welcome to you:)! Glad you made it through the diagnosis process by a whisker then, before lockdown. Good to hear you’re embracing it.

Hi! Welcome from a fellow Newbie!

I have a similar story. Many years of being diagnosed with depression and anxiety. One severe breakdown in my late 20s and another in my 30s. Then got the ASD diagnosis in my 40s. Happy to see someone else boarding the ship at the same time with a similar medical history (although I would guess we're not the only ones with this kind medical history).

It's good to see we are not alone. It would be interesting to see if we had been diagnosed years ago and received support whether we would have had the mental health problems and breakdowns. Hopefully we can do our best now anyway and help ourselves as much as we can.

Generalising is trick as we are all different. What I can say from my perspective is that had I obtained a formal diagnosis when I was a young adult I think that it would have helped me avoid a significant amount of stress - mainly concerning relationships and the pressure I have put myself under unnecessarily

Welcome to WP! May your stay be a long, informative and happy one. I too was diagnosed late in adulthood and now I know knowledge is power, and so many questions have been answered. Mine occurred by chance following a long bout with PTSD.
