Hi everyone. I don't have much to say for an introduction. I'm wondering if I'm autistic. Sometimes it feels like I'm in the middle.
Is it weird that I really hope I do have autism? Everyone says finding out they have it made them realize that there’s nothing wrong with them. But if I’m not autistic that must mean something really is wrong with me. :(
Is that a weird thing to say?

Welcome to WP applebaby!

Everything you feel is legitimate if that's what you are feeling, though I think that if you approach the appropriate professionals and get a diagnosis one way or another then you may have more peace of mind. If this is the path you choose there is an abundance of good people here who can guide you on your way.

Welcome to WP! :D

Not a weird thing to say at all, perfectly understandable: I have various former iterations of myself that have believed there’s something fundamentally wrong with me, and others that have believed there’s something fundamentally wrong with everyone else!

If you discover down a diagnostic pathway that you’re not autistic, that won’t mean there’s something wrong with you, just that how you feel and are in yourself has a different origin & order underpinning it’s legitimacy.

Step on board, and hope you enjoy the ride! :D

Welcome applebaby

You dont sound weird to me

Absolutely nothing wrong with wanting a model to understand your world through

I began my journey to a diagnosis via tests in books pre internet - a good way to start as it gives you a bit of an idea

Getting a formal diagnosis is one of the best things Ive ever done

This is a good place for support, advice and answers to questions

I certainly hope so. If you're not, we may have to ask you to leave.

Thanks guys  I dont know how to reply to individual people if there even is a way.
But I've tried some tests online. A lot of them were the same.
On the AQ test I got a 34/35 out of 50.
On the Aspie Quiz my neurodiverse score was 131 out of 200 and my neurotypical score was 81 out of 200.
It seemed like these scores were low which made me worried.
Thanks again. everyone is so nice here :D

I think 35/6 is a relatively high AQ score for humans overall: I went through it online and got 45, for a reference my wife (NT) took it online as well for a comparison of how it comes out when not administered by a professional: she got 12.
The Aspie Quiz is, as far as I’m aware, an enthusiasts test which is not used in diagnosis: I got 161 ND/44 NT when I filled it out.
I don’t advertise these generally, and it’s not a competition: your self-administered scores give credence to your identification, and justify pursuing a formal diagnosis. :D

Initially I thought I was possibly ASD (I didn't want to "push" it) and now I realize, I am not "possible" at all: I am. My initial scores were AQ 26 and RDOS 110 ASD / 100 NT. "Less" ASD than you. As I unmasked for myself and become self aware ("oh, look at all these stims, I had no idea") my scores increased. Now I score on average AQ 35 and RDOS 130 ASD / 95 NT. I was diagnosed "mild to moderate" ASD (despite not meeting threshold for ADOS-2).

I am still doubtful sometimes (I feel completely normal for myself), but relieved (I know I am not "normal" relative to others) --- so the diagnosis is nice to see "ah, I am different than most in this way and the same as some in this way".

Welcome!

Good to have you with us, applebaby :)! Love your name!

There's alot to be said for being "different", even feeling different, whether or not you are on the autism spectrum... and I feel the main thing is in accepting that no matter what, you are You!

When it comes to autism... the dream is to grow up happy, loved, feeling confident, and to be able to live a fulfilling life. Having autism does not destroy those potentials; it only alters their course. It changes how things must be accomplished. It creates a fascinating, complex individual who stands out and is remembered, even for little things. Instead of trying to push a “normal” life upon a person with Autism, the goal should be re-evaluated. Those who are autistic will always be autistic. They will have unusual behaviours and distinctly different thought patterns. They will have their personal routines and rituals. They will always exist apart from the regular flow of life. This is a blessing and a type of freedom.

Hope you enjoy WP! 8)

Regarding the scores. If you are just starting to look into things to try to tell if you are on the spectrum or not, bear in mind that you may have traits that you don't realize you have. I joined this site thinking rhat I only had one possible trait, hence why I joined to ask. But since then, I have found out that I have many that I just did not realize were traits.

Thanks! I completely missed that button :) Also I was surprised that you said your wife got a 12. I guess I didn't consider that some people will get an even lower score than me

Thank you for this reply!! Some of the questions are so hard because I'm not very aware of what things I do and how I act. I only know about it while I'm doing it. I hope that made sense. I like "I am different than most in this way and same as some in this way" :D

Maybe that will happen to me. I've already noticed some things I didn't know before in the past few weeks.
