Greetings, all. AspieLawyer here -- new WP user.

I'm 39, married, a practicing lawyer, diagnosed by my psychiatrist with AS about six years ago, living in the southeast United States.

I'm very high-functioning; when I told a lawyer friend I has AS the other day I had to point to an example typical behavior he witnessed (I couldn't tell whether someone else was joking and had to ask this friend) to help persuade him I had AS.

AS influences my life every day, but doesn't negatively affect my life all that much. I have a wonderful loving wife, whom I love very much, and an excellent, caring psychiatrist. That plus my increasing ability to puzzle out (more or less consciously) why most NTs do what they do (what my psychiatrist calls "theory of mind") allow me to function well as a lawyer, though it is stressful.

I've spent some time in the chatroom here already; I like it here so far.

Any questions?

Welcome to Wrong Planet!

I personally think and Aspie would be an excellent lawyer. Everything I have debated on was all based on logic. I don't use emotions in any situation in regards to right or wrong.

What type of lawyer are you?
Do you have your own practice?
What other intersts do you have?

Cool... What kind of lawyer are you? I used to think that aspies tended to shy away from jobs which required tremendous sepaking ability. I am currently in a bout of depression at the moment, as I enrolled to get a diploma in Mass Communications, which I now percieve to be a mistake considering how much speech communication/broadcasting I have to do.

I really look forward to chatting with you. I feel that I can relate to you.

I've worked with some tax lawyer that had no public speaking skills.

Brillent people and great tax lawyer too. Boy they would have been a mess in front of a jury though.

Welcome!

Yeah, I'm curious too - did you ever have trouble with public speaking or fast-paced debates or does that come naturally to you? I've always thought lawyer sounded like an interesting job, and I'd like the competitiveness, but I wouldn't stand a chance of keeping up with the high stress debating.

Welcome! :D It's really interesting to hear from all sorts of Aspie's, lawyers included! And it's fantastic that you don't see AS as having all that much of a negative influence upon your life, which is always so good to hear!
