Hi there

I'm new and in the process of diagnosis. I am recently taking it seriously that I have autism and it has been overwhelming. I don't have a family that believes me or what I have been going through. They think that there is someone to blame when all I want is help to live my life.

It is all so overwhelming. Especially since I am in school and now live alone. I've been having a really tough time and really want to be understood. I want to talk to people who know what it feels like to be in my shoes. I wa told by my sister to find a support group.. so, here I am.

I am a 26 year old African American woman who loves science and everything science related (except biology). I love science fiction tv shows, movies, games, and book. My favorite character is Spock. I am studying Physics in school.

Hello there!

Welcome to WP and I'm sure you will find lots of common ground with posters.

I happen to be from a black family that wasn't exactly supportive. It sucks, but keep studying your physics and you will end up in a better situation.

What sci fi in particular do you enjoy?

Hello, welcome

I also love science (multiple branches but I'm educated in geoscience) and sci-fi shows. Spock and the other major Vulcan Star Trek characters (like Tuvok) are my favorites (I'm a huge trek nerd :nerdy: ). What other shows do you like?

I wish I had more of a physics background. We use a lot of physics in structural geology, but I always feel like I don't know enough  .

Thank you all for the welcome. I appreciate it.

I hope that immersing myself in Physics will help. I recently told my parents that I can no longer talk to them. They make me cry a lot and feel crazy.

Star Trek is my favorite show series. I'm currently on the last episode of Star Trek Discovery and it has been a mind trip. I like it so much! Michael Burnam has to be my second favorite character (maybe even tied with her brother Spock!). After Discovery, I love Next Generation. For a funny laugh, I like Futurama. I have seen Alien a million times. I really really love Big Bang Theory and can sing the theme song every time it comes on. I know it isn't technically science fiction but I still love it.

^ I still haven't tried Discovery (though I did watch Picard). I heard they changed the look of the Klingons, so being that I'm no good at change I've been resistant  . But I've heard that Jonathan Frakes directed some of it, so that might be the push I need.

My parents make me crazy too. I'm glad to no longer live with them.

Ooh yes I also love Futurama :-D :alien:

Oh and general new member caution: Be wary if you go into the Political or Love and Dating subforums. Things are often hostile (particularly political threads) there.

Ugh, crying and crazy-making sounds depressingly familiar :( .

Hopefully you can gather a "big bang theory" type bunch of nerdy friends who will support you  .

BTW, I loved Futurama!

Did you ever catch any Rick and Morty?

Yaaaay Futurama ..... and the professor. Blatantly logical ..Love Next Generation ...... still afraid of the Borg ...lolz
Resistance is Futile . 7 of 9 was ideal character but Spocks logic rules imho .

The change of the Klingons was definitely hard to get used to. I still prefer my Worf over these.... uh.... these oddities. It is amazing in quality!! I tried to sit through Picard but it started to bore me a bit. Maybe I wa tired or I liked him best in Next Generation.

I'm trying to get used to no longer living with them. Change is hard for me.. it's been a lot of downs with the occasional ups.

Oh boy, I guess I know where to steer clear of. I appreciate the warning 8O

That is what I want! I want to work in a lab and have nerdy scientist friends. I really want friends like me so I won't feel like the oddball all of the time.

I did watch Rick and Morty! The current season... it's uh... tough to watch.

The Borg are crazy :!:

My favourite Star Trek franchise is: "Voyager".
I identify heavily with Tuvok. "V" 8)

My favorite job was when I worked in a research lab. Everyone was infinitely cooler than me, but working with other scientists was the most mentally stimulating experience.

It must really compound your stresses to have that situation with your family. I hope your sister is more supportive than your parents sound.

L&D at times can be a pit of self-pity and misogyny. PP&R tends to reflect the polarized world we live in, multiplied by the inability to drop things or concede when one's views are reasonably described in an unflattering way.

I don't work in a lab (unless you mean the type that makes music), but maybe I'm eccentric enough to be your friend? And if not, I'd still like to be. :P

Hello friend
Are you fond of NOVA? I can sit and watch the NOVA channel for hours on end. I also enjoy cleaning listening to the Voyager Recordings. A lot of the noise on this planet just isn't as interesting to me as what's out there.
