Welcome, IndigoElle! The WP locals seem like a nice bunch to me.

I was diagnosed about a year ago. A few days before my 65th birthday. And I really did buy champagne on the way home from getting the results from the psychologist.

So, keeping in mind that I think getting your strong suspicion officially confirmed would be better than being told you are just neurotypical, please don't be annoyed if I say: I hope they tell you officially that you are on the Autism Spectrum! (Or, as appropriate, whatever they call the spectrum where you live.)

I am in a bit of a mess as I write but I am alive. Do not be anxious. Sorry for late reply. Post away. Ask questions and enjoy.

Any idea how long you will be waiting before you are assessed?

I like your attitude. I'm inclined to agree, the worst thing they could've told me was that I was "normal".

And I'll mention a phrase you might get some mileage out of. Perhaps usable with SO, family, and informed friends:

"I have doctor's note for that!"

:D My bride was tired of hearing that before we left the psychologist's office. But, honest, I try to only use it when she's pushing against things that I think are actually related to autism.

Before the lockdown they had reduced the list to just over a two year wait as it used to be far longer then that before our Welsh Assembly ploughed a lot of money into autism and other mental issues diagnosis and care etc.
The autism team in my area are a good bunch who work hard at what they do. They are very supportive, because even though I am not officially autistic because I have not been assessed yet, and so if I did need care etc I would normally have to wait until I am assessed to get it, the times when I have asked they have been very good.
I was in a panic because I can't cope with wearing a facemask, and I asked my doctors and they said they were not allowed to give exemptions out and to see our government website (Which I tried but got no where as it is a bit too general or difficult to get the right information for me when I am in a panic) and I emailed the autism team in my area out of desperation and they helped. They are soo good. I am close to tears with relief that they are there for me.
