I picked the planet Mars because it isn't a piece of sports equipment - it is a bit scientific and a bit topical - and I am currently very interested in the new space race and what Elon and Jeff are up to - from a scientific stand point and from a social standpoint in that we are running out of resources on this planet and spreading out into space or to an other planet could be good for everyone. I also like that is round and a bit like a face but not vulnerable. I like science fiction and science fact books and adventure movies too.

Why did you pick your Avatar?

What could be less intimidating than a bald, bearded old man drinking coffee?

A bald, bearded old woman drinking coffee? :jester:

I didn't decide to go down the unintimidating route with the Killer Klown Form Outer Space in my avatar. I picked it because it's from a horror film and I like horror and the song is by a punk band (The Dickies) and I like punk.

A photo of real me, but you're unlikely to recognize me on a street from it :D
Also, a nice photo in general, I think.

I struggled a bit deciding what to use for my WP Avatar image--in part because I was inclined to use a picture that was literally me. Then I realized my keyboard would be the primary channel from me to WP so I decided a photo of my hands using my keyboard would be the best image of "me" for WP. I got my bride to take a few photos of my hands on my keyboard--trying to make it look like my hands were actually using the keyboard not just resting on them.

I picked mine because Link from Twilight Princess is one of my favourite versions of Link, and I also like dogs a lot, so having an icon of wolf Link makes it so I can technically have both him and a dog-related animal as my icon. lol

Mine is my favorite character from my favorite video game (Emil, from Nier: Automata). I can relate to him in many ways.

It's also Yoko Taro's face, for all intents and purposes:

I always assumed it was because of the meme format.

Usually referred to as 'Hide the pain Harold'.

Anyway, I picked mine because I think she's a cool character. Robin from Stranger Things. She's smart and funny. I was tempted to go with Nancy because I also like Nancy as a character but I went with Robin in the end.

Spoilers...

This new one is an album cover:

I really like the image (I would print it and put it in a frame on my wall if I ever did bother with decoration), and I think it illustrates well the mood I want to be in and the kind of attitude I want to have. I think even forum avatars can have a nonzero influence on that kind of thing when you keep seeing them next to your own words.

I have had a couple different accounts here and on both the previous and the current have occasionally changed avatar.
With me being me, there is probably a collection of reasons each was selected but right now the only deciding factor I can think of is that it be a design which makes it easy to spot my own posts when scrolling down a thread page.

I get tired of avatars after a little while, so I change them every few months. I usually choose someone with long red hair, because mine is long and auburn. I like castles, not because I'm some sort of princess but rather the opposite. I definitely don't belong in castles. I feel like I'm trapped in my life and I'm trying to break out of the constraints I put on myself. I suppose the castles are a metaphor in that regard.

My other avatars here are usually representative of characters from literature, or great artists such as Waterhouse.

On other forums, I use a different style.

My avatar is The Spider, a huge glyph across the ground that's part of the Nazca Lines in Peru. I love spiders, they are my favorite animal. I have a blanket with some of the Nazca Lines on them that was made from alpaca in Peru, and it comforts me.

henry corwin, a dissipated and thoroughly defeated department store santa claus in the twizone episode "night of the meek." i chose him because he finds redemption at the end, beyond his wildest dreams.
