hey all,

I'm new here. Found the site while I was researching AS over the past few days. Found out what AS was while researching the psychological differences in people who have a hard time with social interaction. I'm no doctor so I won't say whether I have AS or not, I just happen to have a lot of the symptoms I guess.

About me: 20 years old, Philadelphia born and raised (I still reside there), I go to the local community college here. I really have no friends. People like co-workers or classmates wouldn't believe me if I said that because I'm naturally witty so I make people laugh and have a kind of outgoing personality. In situations where I pretty much have to interact with others (work, classes with teachers who encourage open discussion, etc.) I can carry on normally. That's why I think I don't have AS. But in other situations (the cafeteria at school, a party or cookout, at a shopping mall) I can't even figure out how or when to introduce myself. I'm wondering if anyone can relate?

My interests are pretty much the same as most other young black men from the inner-city. I like rap music. I like sports, particularly basketball and football. For the most part I find I have a lot in common with the people I meet and can carry on regular conversation, but I can't tell the difference between someone who wants to be friends or someone who is just being friendly. Hopefully, I can learn from this site (I already have learned a whole lot) and find a few people that share similar experiences so I don't feel so much like a weirdo.

Welcome. I lived in Philly most of my life, and still consider it my home in many ways.

So, I'm not the alone on that one. Okay, that's what's up

Yeah, I like the Roots and OutKast. Two of my favorite groups. My preference of music is more along the lines of groups like them, Black Moon, Tribe Called Quest, Lords of the Underground, KMD, Black Star, etc. I guess "hip-hop" would be the better word to describe the genre of music I listen to.

My man, Vegas looks like a funny place on TV. I thought we had a lot of pawn shops here. Like the old cliche goes, "It's a nice place to visit, but I sure wouldn't live there." I'm not surprised you still feel like Philly is your home. Philadelphians are always like that. Including myself. I was watching Everybody Hates Chris and Rochelle (the mom) said, "All people from Philly want to do is talk about Philly. They want to talk about how they miss cheesesteaks and Patti LaBelle." That made me laugh 'cause it's kind of true. (Up to the Patti LaBelle part )
