I'm new to the forum. I'm a 37 year old single mom and full time student. I have spent my life being "different". I was labeled academically gifted and odd. I don't get people, don't have friends just find people draining. People react negatively to me and never seem to understand me. I don't understand their logic so It's easier to not deal with them on a personal level. I have a 5 year old son who is autistic and my eight year old who is academically gifted was diagnosed as Aspergers a year ago. After a great deal of denial I think I'm ready to explore the possibility that I too have Aspergers. I'm reluctant about labels...I don't get why different needs a label. Personally I have always seen myself as fortunate and who cares if I don't need to be surrounded by friends. Recently I have been dealing with issues that I'm having trouble getting a hold on and I think my inability to be understood by people is a fault I'm going to have to get some resolution on in order to overcome the problems. I wanted some information and feedback from other adults who have Asperger's.

Nice to meet you, Taken. :)

The term different does not really described an aspie's difficulties with things but unique is sometimes suitable for me. You defined yourself as you described yourself.

Hi Taken! Welcome to WP!
I also have 2 kids on the spectrum. That's what led me to learn about autism, and to this board initially. I hope that you find all the info, and feedback that you're looking for here.
