Hi everyone! I'm new here. I realized today that I don't actually know anyone else with autism. I just wanted to meet and chat with other autistic people. I was diagnosed in my early twenties, but I knew since around middle school and was told about it by other people. I had a very difficult life and couldn't get help until I became an adult and found an autism specialist when I went to college. I was diagnosed with high functioning classic autism and have social, communication, sensory and repetitive issues, but because I got diagnosed so late there was no treatment available and I had sort of developed my own coping mechanisms by then anyway. I got counselling for a couple of years from an Autism specialist that helped me understand it better, but then I moved and never received any other support. Lately I am struggling with my Autism and just wanted to find some other Autistic people to hang out with online.

Welcome to Wrong Planet. One thing to keep in mind is that most people (NT) have both good and bad skills. The difference for Aspies is that ours are many times greater than NTs. Sometimes our skills reach great levels. The best approach for us is to learn our pluses and minuses and then use our pluses to overcome our weaknesses.
