Hi. I'm new here. Like so many others, I've always known that I was just a bit "off," but my older sister wouldn't let me be "different" and therefore "special" and therefore deserving of more attention than she got, so I guess I have a lot to thank her for. :-) I had to develop my own spine.

I'm 25 and new to the thought that maybe there really is a definite "something" going on with all of my weirdnesses. I'm very glad to see that this is a non-scary place to admit that. I'm going to talk to a professional soon (making the appointment later today) to find some definite answers. Even if I chicken out and don't bother with a full official diagnosis, it really is kinda nice to think that my quirks aren't just me being "stupid." And it's kinda overwhelming...

Someone mentioned that there's a test - is that online or only available through a practitioner?

Hello and welcome.
I tried posting a link for the test here but cant seem to get it to work(Tis true, not all aspies are computer genusis, especially those of us who were in high school when "pong" was considered a video game)

You can try and find it yourself by going to the search function at the lower left side of your screen and typing in RDOS aspie quiz,I think the third listing under that will get you to a thread with a link for the test.It is a pretty good test,I think.I scored 163 the first time I took it and was later DXed with AS,so....seems more accurate then a random toss of the coin.

Hope you enjoy the planet.

The quiz from Wired magazine wasn't terribly conclusive - 24/50. On the other hand:
I got a score of 158 on the Aspie quiz. Hmm... That's definitely food for thought.

Thanks for the help, krex!

Now, any advice on how to break this to my "shrink"-phobic boyfriend? ;-]

Your welcome

You can let him know that has nothing to do with mental health,it's a matter of neurological wiring and learning how to compinsate for our differences in a world that is arranged for the a different neurology, similiar to a deaf person living in a hearing world.(Which isnt that far of a stretch since many have difficulty reading non-verbal communication which accounts for 80%? of human communication.Have fun exploring the planet.

O.K. just took the quiz 158 out of 200 and on the wired quiz i got a 44 out of 50. it would appear that all my daughters therapists are correct.(shes autistic) don't really know how i feel about it yet. it does explain a lot of my childhood through.(was always know as "The weirdo bookworm," sucked to be me in high school) don't know what to do about it, no insurance for a formal diagonsis any suggestions ?
