Hello,
My name is Spencer and I'm from Ohio. I was just formally diagnosed with AS earlier this month (though my doctor has known that I'm AS for years, he just hadn't put in whatever necessary paperwork). I've also been diagnosed with sensory integration disorder, but then I think any Aspie probably meets the criteria for SID.
I'll be 18 in November, and I'm going into my senior year of high school, where I have beat out all the NTs for Valedictorian. I am obsessed with playing trombone, chess, and biology. I plan to become a virologist, a career path which requires that I obtain both an MD and a PhD. I read incessantly, you can probably guess my favorite author as well as genre.
For my undergraduate education I was thrilled to be pre-emptively accepted to the University of Edinburgh in Scotland on the strength of my standardised test scores. However, as foreign universities are quite expensive, I may have to make do with some American school, as long as they give me a full ride. Amusingly enough, Edinburgh classifies Asperger's as a "learning disability." Truly hilarious, as I and the other two Aspies at my school are clear superiors to our peers as far as intelligencce is concerned.
In music nothing compares to the glory of a British Brass Band, but the symphonies of Strauss and Mahler, along with the Baroque works of Daniel Speer, are also excellent. I play bass trombone primarily, but am also fairly adept with a euphonium.
I despise all sports, and in fact have never in my life watched a single sporting event all the way through. Despite this, my school keeps giving me tickets to baseball or basketball games to "reward" me for my good grades. Couldn't they just give me a Border's gift card?
My most recent obsession has been the game of chess. An NT and I have been competing fiercely for our school's first-board spot, and sadly I think it will go to him. Our school came in third in our league last year, and our team for next year looks to be vastly stronger, so we should have no trouble clinching first this year.
