Hi, I'm new to the world of Aspergers, but in my early thirties in real life. I have a degree in the sciences but somehow missed learning anything about A.S.

I haven't been officially diagnosed. I have always felt different and out-of-place around most people to think I must be some new subspecies. I ended up attending a seminar given by Tony Atwood and read up enough on the subject to consider it likely that I fall somewhere on the spectrum. I haven't decided whether or not to get an actual diagnosis as of yet.

I enjoy the arts and sports, mostly passively these days. I am pretty quiet in real life though people that know me think I am rather goofy. I am not really sure what else to say. It is really nice to be in a community of like-minded people. :D

Welcome to WP, sluice, there are heaps of Aussies on here. I take it you're in the SE Queensland region? I live in the Illawarra in NSW.

thanks for the intro. i am 54, with several degrees, and came to this site about 6 months ago. i have been on a sharp, learning-curve about aspergers, and consider myself somewhere on the spectrum. the chat room is a big help.

Welcome to WP!

As a general statement, I'd recommend anyone in Australia get diagnosed, because there are government support systems to help with getting a job, etc. But if you're not having any problems in your life right now, I guess there's no reason to. :)

Sluice, since you have a degree in sciences can I ask if you worked in a morgue? I'm just curious because some morgues have these hideous basins called "sluices"... aka slophoppers, food flushers, flesh flushers, mush flushers, bilge bowls, bilge basins, barf bowls, barf basins, slop sluices... you get it. I'm wondering if you named yourself after one of those... probably not.

And welcome to WP! :D

Thanks for the welcome :) My network connection has been screwy so I haven't had a chance to reply until now.

Actually, I'm in the states. Tony Atwood gave a seminar as part of his book promotion. I was having some issues in my personal life that led me to research about Aspergers. Right around that time a friend who works as a speech pathologist told me about the seminar. Good luck or fate, I would guess.

I'll have to check it out, though I am a notoriously slow typist.

Nah, nothing that interesting. Just a nickname I picked up as a kid. I don't recall if it was a play on words or something to do
with my tempermental nature back then.
