G'day, I'm a 53 year old male from Oz, married with two grown up kids. I'm university educated and work as a town planner. I have worked at the same employer for almost 28 years. I've always thought that I was "different" but I thought I was just eccentric until I recently read an article about someone with Asperger's syndrome and thought that sounds like me!

I'll tell you some more about my self so you can tell me what you reckon.

I don't relate to people well, I have few friends and consider myself to be unpopular. I consider most of my friends to be "oddballs".

I judge myself and others harshly.

I feel letdown by people I thought were friends.

I have few emotional attachments to people.

However, I consider myself to be a very emotional person. It is not uncommon for me to cry during a movie. I recently saw "La vie en rose" and was reduced to blubber.

However, I consider myself to be "hard" and consider most people weak.

I've never had homosexual tendencies but in many ways I feel a feminine side. I enjoy chic flics but read heaps of stuff on war and crime.

I'm very frank about what I think, I don't hold back. This gets me in lots of strife.

I don't get on with politicians. I consider them to be the antithesis of my personality.

I feel very strongly when I see an injustice.

I'm a risk taker.

I'm pedantic when it comes to language and pronunciation. For instance I find it hard to accept that few people from Australia can pronounce Los Angeles properly. I'm also fascinated with language and accents.

I like solitude and hate crowds.

I hate to be the centre of attention.

I find public speaking nerve racking.

I dislike organised religion. I consider myself to be a pagan.

I hate to watch TV or listen to radio with commercials.

I find it hard to concentrate when the TV is on.

I'm very critical of a lot of things especially politicians.

I'll go shopping for hours and buy nothing.

I don't like pushy people.

I research things to enth degree.

I'm a very "visual" person.

I have excellent spatial skills.

I prefer to communicate using writing rather than talking.

I feel it difficult to influence anyone even when I feel I have an excellent case.

I often feel misunderstood.

I'm passionate about a lot of things.

I love football (not American) which is an emotional game.

Another Aussie! Welcome. I live on the Gold Coast. As to you having AS or not, I'd suggest finding someone to give you an official diagnosis. I was diagnosed by Dr Tony Attwood....

No offence but it doesn't really sound like Asperger's, just a collection of small personality quirks.

Hello and welcome to WP. Unfortunately there is no way for us to tell you if you have AS or not. The on-line quizzes can act as a guideline and you definitely have quite a few AS traits. The next step, if you so choose, would be to get a formal dx from a professional. Or decide to remain self-diagnosed like many of us have.
Good luck to you!

I did the first test and scored 36 out of 50 (very high)

here is the result of my second test

RBI =8.75
SI=7.5
L=4.25
POC=7.5
IR=4.25
RP=3
S=3.5
M=0.5

It looks like I've got Asperger's syndrome.

There is not a lot of stuff written about it, I guess that's why I took so long to work it out. I also know a person with Asperger's syndrome with low social skills and would never have thought that it applied to me. I consider my social skills fairly good but do not enjoy socialising.

The best thing about finding out is knowing that I'm not alone. There's a whole planet out there!

just wanted to say Hi, I'm old also, took the test and got a 44 out of 50 but kinda suspected, it was just confirmation.

For most people, what would be the purpose or advantage of an official diagnosis, and what does this usually entail?

For me, the advantage lies supporting a disability claim, after my supervisor told me that I had ass-burgers.

But, what would it do for the rest of you?
