Hello, I'm new here, and my name is Matt. I'm 42 years old and was only formally diagnosed (with Asperger Syndrome, what they now call Autism Spectrum Disorder) at the age of 27, but like some, I had figured out there was something "different" about me well beforehand. I'm married and have a child. I've had a lifelong interest in science and technology that translated from a very young age into an increasing expertise in various subfields of what is collectively called IT (apparently started tinkering with things as a toddler, taught myself to program around age 7, and just went on from there). Autism has had a profound impact on my life, as it certainly does for anyone, and I'm learning and searching for better ways to cope and live my life day by day.

Welcome. You wrote, "I'm learning and searching for better ways to cope and live my life day by day."

I am 75 years old with Asperger's Syndrome. I will pass on my thoughts that may be of some help to you.

Stress builds and build and builds in the human body until it explodes. Many Aspies deal with significantly more stress then the average human. As a result, it is important to know how to remove stress from your body. In my humble opinion the approach requires two steps. First, sleep is extremely important. An adult needs a total of two hours of REM and deep NREM sleep each night to delete stress. Second, exercise is also very important. One needs around 1 hour of hard exercise each day to vent stress.

So welcome to the site.

Welcome to WP! I hope you enjoy visiting here.

And I suggest wandering around to see what you can find here.

Computers are fun, aren't they? I've been using and programming them since 1971. For a long time I thought being around computers so much had affected how I thought. Then I found out I was an Aspie and realized being around computers hadn't affected how I thought...they fit how I thought!
