I'm new here so I'm going to be incredibly awkward.

I'm 23, a woman, and I am a self-diagnosed autistic. Specifically, what used to be known as Asperger's or is now known as level 1, low support needs, whatever you want to call it. I only realized this about a year ago because my friend (a psych major) told me I'm autistic. My brother got his official autism diagnosis earlier this year, and that helped me realize I'm also autistic. No official diagnosis for me, I'm broke! I also have ADHD, which is professionally diagnosed.

I'm too nervous to meet with a community/group of other autistic people in person. But I also haven't been able to find one in my area. I'm not great with socializing because I'm absolutely terrified everyone is going to hate me. But I need to find people I can actually relate to and I'm also running low on friends.

My special interest is Doctor Who, so if you're a fan, please talk to me about it. No one I know likes this dumb show, but it's my favorite thing to exist ever. I'm also big into reading and literature, and most forms of storytelling media.

I don't really know how this place works, I'm new to posting on a forum at all. Feel free to talk to me, I'm really awkward but also running low on socialization.

I hope you have discovered AQ. It cannot give you a formal diagnosis but it can reinforce your self-diagnosis.

And...Doctor Who. Sigh.

I started watching it during the Tom Baker era. And, at some point started getting it on video.

My video collection now includes what is available of the Hartnell & Troughton eras (including reconstructions) and all of the Doctors afterwards (including McGann) up to and including Whittaker...it seems likely that at some point I will also begin accumulating Gatwa episodes and later, as well.

Plus I've got K-9 and Company: A Girl's Best Friend, Torchwood, Sarah Jane Adventures, and Class.

And some non-canon videos (including all of K9), as well.

I blame the opening theme music. I find it compelling.

At least I stopped buying the books.

I had a friend working in a TV station who found a Hartnell episode on a stored wire reel recorder in about 82. I remember it causing a sensation at the time.

Actually most people do not hate you, they just do not understand you. Humans tend to fear things they do not understand. So they may fear you, but be strong and Believe in Yourself. That is the only one that is important.

I'm super picky with books. I usually like sci-fi/fantasy found family sort of things. Of course, I have a soft spot for Harry Potter despite the flaws of the author. Lately, I've been reading a lot of classic sci-fi, and I really enjoyed the Robot and Monk series by Becky Chambers.

I wish I had a DW collection like yours. Right now I'm relying on BritBox, Max, and Internet Archive to access every episode. (And right now Internet Archive is down, and I've really been wanting to watch The Macra Terror ).
I started watching right after the 50th anniversary came out, and I've been powering through Classic this year. Troughton's era is for sure my favorite, and I've spent all my money on books and Big Finish audios, everything. I actually think I prefer Classic to Modern. I'm on Peter Davidson's last season right now and I'm loving every second!


That's so cool!! I'm glad your friend found what was probably a missing episode. I think it's super important to have older media preserved, especially when it comes to DW, as the show is really tied to its own history.

I absolutely agree about JK Rowling's antics as of recent.
