Hi, I've just registered, and would like a little help to find the best avenues to pursue for someone in my position.

I'm 79 yrs old and it only occured to me that I might be 'on the spectrum' about 10 or 12 years ago, which, after a few years of introspection I have now decided that I am.
I suspect that thousands of you have been on a similar road for a long time, (but maybe not quite as long as me!)

To survive this long, I am obviously on the higher end of the spectrum, but I have always struggled with close relationships and after a lifetime of trying to fit in, I have finally found a place of peace and tranquility by realising that life can be very nice on your own.

HOWEVER ! I wouldn't mind making contacts with a few like minded souls.

That sounds like an excellent reason to frequent Wrong Planet!

Just keep in mind that it is not real-time.

Auldyin, Welcome to Wrong Planet.

We may be of similar age. I am 76 years old and have Asperger's Syndrome on the higher end of the spectrum.

Thanks for all the welcome mats guys, I'm starting to get to grips with the format. Jakki, I'm afraid I can't give anybody any tips except for " believe in yourself " I regret wasting so much time trying to "fit in" which I very rarely managed to do. I think I survived for this long only because I AM high end, and people don't see the quirks until they get to know me a bit. As my first contribution to the site I would like to recommend that anybody who hasn't yet read " Desiderata " should do so. P.S. Carbonhalo, he obviously IS a visitor from another planet, God bless him.

I began posting on the site around 5 years ago. Two years later COVID began and became a threat. I began a posts on this website on 22 Jan 2020, 1:15 pm to discuss the threat. I titled it Emergence of a Deadly Coronavirus.

Emergence of a Deadly Coronavirus

The post is still active today. It is now 537 pages of conversations, somewhere around 8,000 entries. As the virus became more contagious, it also at the same time became less deadly. It primarily effects elderly people like us and people with certain immune deficiencies.

You wrote, "anybody who hasn't yet read " Desiderata " should do so. P.S. Carbonhalo, he obviously IS a visitor from another planet, God bless him."

I didn't know this person so I looked it up. I do not know for sure if this is what you discussed. I came across this:

Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible, without surrender,
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even to the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons;
they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain or bitter,
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs,
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals,
and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love,
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment,
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.

And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore, be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be.
And whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life,
keep peace in your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

It sounds like very good advice.

Thanks for posting that Jimmy. The Carbonhalo message was for a different posting, I suspect Carbonhalo and I share a great admiration for Billy Connelly AKA " The Big Yin " a man who really knows how to live life, no matter what it throws at him !
