Hello everyone! I'm always hesitant to put myself out there....but here goes! I'm 45 and have ADHD and Autism and I feel that I've been struggling a bit more as I've gotten older. Honestly, life has been overstimulating, understimulating, and lonely all at the same time, so I figured that I would try to find people who feel as I do. I'm looking forward to chatting with everyone!

Hi Violet_Kat, Welcome to Wrong Planet.
Life can be very stressful for people with conditions like ours. I believe there is a couple things that you can do to relieve the stress. Many times when we are young we have a lot of energy and avoid this problem but as we age, it comes front and center.
O.K. What are these two tools. They are rather simple. They are sleep and exercise. Your body needs at least one hour of strenuous exercise each day to remove stress. Your body needs very deep sleep to remove stress. It requires the deepest sleep states. They are called REM sleep and deep NREM sleep. You need at least 2 hours total each night of these deep sleep states to get back to normal. So make sure that your sleep environment is perfect. Remove sound, lights, vibration. Make it an ideal sleep environment.
Around 50 years ago, my wife convinced me to buy a waterbed. We have used it for 50 years now and it provides a perfect sleep environment. Here is an example of current waterbeds.

jimmy m: Thank you for the information on sleep and exercise. As I've gotten older, I've come to appreciate how integral these things are to function. I've even resorted to using earplugs for sleeping (as long as my husband is home). The waterbed is very intriguing! When I think of waterbeds, I think of giant, heavy beds that envelop your entire body.
utterly absurd: Thank you! Nice to meet you!
Double Retired: Thank you! Having ADHD and Autism boggles my own mind. The hyperfocus and hyperfixation are fierce but only until something bores me, and as I tell my kids, "Mom has VERY big feelings" hehe!
Carbonhalo: Thank you! Violet is a lovely color
Tim_Tex: Thank you! Nice to meet you!
softlyspeaks41: Thank you and nice to meet you as well!
