I'm soon-to-be adult (18yo by end of this month) who's passionate about computers, Hi-Fi audio and automotive stuff. I'm also into photography, but rather on "appreciating nice shots" level; Also a proud self-hoster, running my own site since June of '23 (and mailserver since October of that year)
I cope in life pretty well mostly thanks to detaching from mainstream bandwagon and going my own way, but still feelin' somewhat lost on that mad, mad world as I lack friends (or anyone over acquaintanceship level). Finding someone locally (Poland) gave no fruit so far and "social" media are antisocial,
So here I am :> Hoping to meet someone nice there. Though I need a moment to open up first cuz I'm still kinda ashamed, heh...

Hi Hetzer and welcome to Wrong Planet.

That is one of the problems, finding your way in this life. There are other people like you but often they are not visible. You will not meet them in general at big parties. Many like to be alone. Many are very intelligent. You have found areas of special interest and within a very short time you become a Subject Matter Expert. Then you move on and find something else the attracts you interest and you dive very deep into that subject. Over time your skill level becomes extremely large.

In many cases you will find your friends near the areas that you excel in. Your special quirks and hobbies. Look there.

Welcome to WP! I hope you find a number of nice people here.

I'm curious, though. Do you think you are neurodivergent? It's not a requirement for being on WP, I'm just curious.

And I hope you are not ashamed because you are Autistic (if you are Autistic). I'm Autistic and not at all ashamed of it. If I were younger I might be discrete about mentioning, though, because some folk might react negatively to that revelation. I'm guessing the best plan for a younger Autistic is to do as well as they can in life and wait a few decades before declaring the Autism; declaring it too soon could create incorrect preconceptions that get in the way. Once you've built good credentials, however, declaring your Autism should just be interesting trivia rather than a serious problem.

Despite preconceptions, some Autistics have built themselves some excellent credentials. Maybe you can do the same!

I already thought 'bout that and tried, but I'm not sure if I really know what I'm looking specifically for; Places of my interests I found were, shortly speaking, unfit for meeting people. Recently stumbled upon "general" polish aspie forum, which I found nice but is very low-traffic. On that forum I got to know about WP and yesterday finally decided to land here. So far feeling good!

Ye I'm diagnosed autist, but it's because of my "freshness" here. I'm okay with myself, I don't see my autism as a problem, limitation. Though yeah, It's better to not declare it right on the start as people's view on it varies wildly...

Anyway, thank y'all for a warm welcome :>

In general, the people that became my lifetime friends, I met in person. After we became friends, they would begin to talk and talk and talk. It was like a whole lifetime of their experience were opened up and they understood, they could talk about anything with me. So many times all you have to do is listen. One of my friends talked for 3 hours. I would try and change the subject, and he would jump into the next subject in lightning speed and carry on for another hour. In that meeting, I spoke no more then 20 words. He spoke thousands and thousand.

But this is a person to person meeting, not one across the internet.
