Hi, my name's Emily-Jo, I'm 19 and live in the UK and I was diagnosed with AS two months ago, and I am therefore sort of uneducated on the topic so far. I was prompted to go looking on wikipedia for places like this after a girl in my Open University department made me aware that there were places like this out there. Uhm.. what to say? Heh, I feel sort of nervous about being here. Luckily due to having very supportive, open minded and anti-normality parents, I've actually got this far relatively unscathed. The main negative part of my life influenced by AS has been bullying, I was bullied from the age of 5 until 16, when I left my high school for a sixth form college, and people constantly underestimating me until I got to day college and made a fresh start where nobody knew me. I've achieved really well academically and can function well in my home environment and local area, or anywhere as long as I'm with a family member, but when I'm on my own in a new environment I tend to either flounder, have panic attacks, or just.. space out. I don't really know what else to say, I'm still learning to verbalise all of this but.. Hi! It's really good to be here, I'm glad this place exists.
Thanks,
Em
