I'm new

I'm an 18 year old college student with Asperger's Syndrome; I've been diagnosed with this since the age of 9, and known about it since then; my parents have always been honest with me.

My interests are oddly varied; ranging anywhere from philosophy, science, history, technology, literature, art, economics, and politics; however, my interest in each are intense; which weirds out most people.

Coming to college has made me realize how far behind I am, socially; I know this because of the refreshing honesty of college, compared with the relative restraint most people have in high school.

While I'm no Uncle Tom, desiring to mimic my NT peers in every way; to be frank, I think that all these unwritten rules hinder communication, ironically. However, I do want to be on "speaking terms"; in short, I want to comply with, not accept, these unwritten rules.

I look forward to being part of this community.

It's disappointing that people get 'weirded' out by encylopaedic knowledge!

I hope you do not take offense, but I'm not all that comfortable revealing that; I generally want to stay anonymous online. Sorry. ^^;

However, I will say I'm majoring in Computer Engineering.

I've thought the same thing; I mean, what is the point of learning if it is only done selectively? Taking only "useful" bits-I think all knowledge is useful, it just depends on what you wish to practice-and ignoring the rest. It leaves huge gulfs of disconnected knowledge.

Of course, this is just my perspective.

Hey,nice to meet you. I'm also an 18 year old college student and I am interested in the biological sciences(my major is going to be Biology). I have noticed how "not social" I am as well........but that's probably okay, I guess. In high school a lot of people made fun of me, mainly because of things I did or liked that seemed sort of odd to them, and in college people are a little more easygoing, so I've had better luck connecting with them, even though I don't feel I'll ever be "fully social."
