Hi, my name is Jamie, I am 43 years old and have just been diagnosed with Asperger's. In a way this a huge relief to me, as it goes a long way to explaining why my life (especially at school or in social situations) has been so dfficult. I was so happy to find this site and to be able to read the experiences of other people like me who have shared very similar experiences.

My life at school was a complete nightmare, because of the motor difficulties that I had, I was inevitably bullied, and chosen last for sports teams etc. I was also consistently left out of any social circles.

I have been unemployed for the last year and a half, and lost my last job because I could not handle the demands of multitasking that they were expecting that I could complete. Instead they just accused me of being "lazy" and "unorganized", and they could never make ANY time to help me as they were all WAY too busy with their own work. I hope that now I have been diagnosed and am aware of my limitations that I will be able to get the help necessary in order to get back into employment.

Thanks fo all your replies. I have to agree with you agmoie working in an office certainly is hell, especially when you don't have any idea what the hell is wrong with you!! ! I can certainly see the advantage of being self-employed.
