Hello from the Wild West!

Hello! I'm a 42-year-old gal, almost 43, with an Aspie teenage son, and a 53-year-old Aspie fiance. My son was diagnosed eight years ago at the age of eight.

I, myself, have a severe learning disability that was finally diagnosed in high school (after years of suffering-and my parents were TEACHERS, for God's sake!), with a "touch of moderate autism, probably close to Asperger's" (my psych's pych-speak, no kidding!); therefore, I have and deal with many of the same issues my son and fiance have and deal with. I think that's one of the things that attracted me to my fiance, he was so much like an adult version of my son, whom I find fascinating. I love how their minds work.

I'm so happy to have found this place, I truly feel as if I'm really home here. It's exhausting living each day in a world that expects you to think and behave in a way that your brain just isn't wired for; no matter how hard you may try, you still lose jobs and friends, and family gets angry, over the same "issues", over and over. So, it's really wonderful to be here. I've told my son about this site and hopefully, he'll join and post (he's really a wonderful, extremely bright, creative, caring young man, it makes me sick and angry to see how he's constantly viewed and treated by those who refuse to understand his condition and prefer the comfort of their bigotry to actually learning something new).
