Hello everyone.

After doing extensive research on autism, AS and related subjects, I am more than likely an AS/HFA person. A lot of the traits I've read about either did or still do apply to me. I didn't open my mouth until age 3, and didn't say a real word until age 5. Even then, I had vast knowledge of many things (mainly geography) that I shouldn't have known about until I was somewhat older. I was also reading on a much higher level than normal.

All throughout my life in school, I never had any real friendships with anyone. I was put in special classes beginning in middle school - not because they suspected autism, but because I was misdiagnosed with ADD. Even though I'm still angry at the misdiagnosis, I am greatful I was put in different, smaller class sizes. If it wasn't for that, I would have never gotten through high school. The teachers I had supported me from day 1, and pushed me to succeed.

Fast-forward to today. I am 21 now. I'm having trouble finding a paying job, for starters. Part of the hiring process is a personality test. As it turns out, I can't be hired by anyone unless I flat-out lie about myself. In addition, I have a very severe driving phobia. Especially where I live, there are too many people who don't deserve drivers' licenses that have them anyway. I don't want to get involved in an accident that's not my fault, so I don't want to drive.

Enough about my history. My interests are limited. I am a fan of many sports and I'm a walking database when it comes to Formula 1 racing.

Some of my childhood problems still get to me. I still have trouble carrying a conversation unless it's related to sports, animation or music. I still have constant trouble making eye contact.

So with my research, combined with the facts about myself, I more than likely am either HFA or an Aspie. I personally don't need a professional diagnosis, I don't think. So I identify myself as autistic and am proud of it, and will keep doing so until my dying day.

Oh wow, that was my longest intro post ever. Though I guess in an internet forum like this, it's good to know.

good for you!

it took me until i was 19 years old to get diagnosed. although my family doesn't exactly agree with it (they want me to be 'smart') it made me comfortable with why i do what i do.

I hope you feel as liberated as I did.

Welcome beau99,

Sounds about right.

What job skills do you have? Aspies make rotten sports announcers, most formula I is in Europe, what field interests you?

Where have you been since high school?

Everyone lies to get a job, if they told the truth they would be shot. Well, at least arrested.

Where you live there are many people who do not deserve a drivers license? Earth?
