Hey! I heard about this site through asexuality.org, where I've met a lot of aspies.

I don't know how accurate the self-test is but it claims I'm somewhat aspie but mostly neurotypical:
http://www.rdos.net/eng/quizpoly.php?p1 ... 8=48&p9=43
I didn't get the part about hunting and walking through the woods though.

I'm curious as to where the name of the site comes from since I can't find the mission statement or a history of the group anywhere--is there one?

Also I'm learning about the whole autism rights thing and how different organizations work so was curious as to if the site has a certain slant in terms of activist orientation or whatever.

I don't think we have an activist slant. We are mostly a support BBS. We try to clear up misconceptions about AS. If you want to ask about that stuff, please contact the administrator, Alex Plank.

To put it short this is a community, not an organisation.

Welcome mcsquared,

Before doing anything, it is helpful to figure out who you are, and why you would want to.

According to all the experts, we are nothing like the way we are here.

This community is about self defining from the inside, being ourselves, and some learning about dealing with those Planet-X people.

Our organization is 2,000,000 working Engineers, Scientists, IT, Professors, Artists, Musicians, Writers, Inventors, who keep the world running, and develop most of the new. Most have never heard of AS.

Hey--thanks for answering, but I found your response confusing. Are Planet-X people aspies or neurotypicals? And what organization are you referring to with 2,000,000 members?

Right now I'm a student who wants to get involved in mental health activism, but I'm kind of confused right now with all the conflicting views out there. I joined a few groups on facebook, some of whom are vocal about how Autism Speaks doesn't speak to them and were pretty upset over the "Autism Everyday" video. I've also heard bad thing about NAMI accepting money from drug companies. Another group called Mind Freedom seems to be the most radical but doesn't seem to include autism in their discussions.

I get the impression this is a hang-out sort of community which is great so thanks for being so welcoming.

We are about one in a hundred and fifty, 2,000,000 in the US, not organized at all, most do not know, or care. Planet-X is neurotypical, and is now forming groups to speak for us, because there is money involved, but none of us are in their organizations.

Drug companies seek cures for things that have never needed to be cured, imagine 2,000,000 convinced to take pills, the psychs go along, because they would get a cut, but no one believes them, so they fund grass roots organizations, professional fund raisers, Washington Lobbyists, to hype the market.

WP is us being us, which is mostly very normal folks who get by in life. AS is not a disability, there is no treatment, no drugs work to cure us, and the worst examples here have been in the hands of psycobabbling pill pushers, and are suffering the side effects of drugs.

For such a small group, we contribute a lot to the world, far beyond our numbers.

On the question of, would you want to be cured, more than 90% say no, I like being me, some younger people do wish for a social life, but I think that is the same with young neurotypicals. The group that wants to be cured, is also the group that has been talking to pill priests, and is suffering from the side effects of drugs.

All drugs are experimental, few have lasted in the market. It is a product, and about the time the lawsuits roll in, it is dropped, and a new and improved product is launched. Drug prices reflect the eventual class action lawsuit.

The recent discovery of Autism by drug companies seeking new markets funds action groups as advertizing. They in turn will say and do anything to raise more funds for the cause. The cause is, 11% must be donated to something, like drug company reserch, paying pill pushers to write studies, and 89% can go to funding the payroll.

Part of that goes to people who come here and say everything we say is wrong, and we are deranged.

There is a fight about who will speak for us, us, or the drug companies.

WP has doubled in less than a year, most people say they like the information they get here, parents speaking with parents, young people making friends, us old folks who say, that explains my life.

No one has said, You should go to Autism Speaks for the real story, though we all know they exist.

Alex has done a wonderful thing. Parents of small children come loaded with fears, they have been to the propaganda sites. Here they meet other parents, and what their children will grow to become, and they like them.

WP is the biggest threat to the marketing plans of drug companies.

Alex only created a place to meet, the rest is community. It does have a growing function and purpose, all done without organization.

All done the Aspie Way.

Welcome to Wrong Planet.
Those quizzes can interesting but they can actually diagnose anything.
We're not a activism group.
I think the organization that inventer is refering to isn't an actual organization persay but a way of saying the mass of people with Asperger's Syndrome; Though, as I'm not him I can't acctually speak from him thats just what I'm getting from it.
