Hey

I'm a 45 year old physicist with 5 kids. One of the kids has AS and another ASD and I'd have to admit that all of them seem about as quirky as I am. Maybe my username, which is a derisive nickname I got in junior high, tells my story. I've got to admit that when my son was diagnosed with AS 4 years ago and my wife suggested I was probably an aspie also, I was taken aback (another clue?). However, over the past couple months I have researched AS and ASD and find that accepting my wife's conclusion could give me a way of understanding many of the ways that I think and feel as well as many of the challenges I have faced in life.

So, I am posting to this site for advice and support. However, I have no idea in the world how to get the most out of such a venture as to this point, the only forums I've ever posted to are ones that help me figure out how to get my PC working again after my kids trash it and ones that are associated with my favorite addiction, Civilization. I would appreciate all the feedback I can get on how to get the most out of this site, both as a person, a husband, a father and an employee. Bring it on!! !! !

Welcome to WrongPlanet!Image

I myself just turned 49 the other day everything you describe, many of your difficulties in dealing with
people I also had. Been there, done that, my bloody T-shirt is in the trash but I'm still standing....
Come on over to the Dino Cafe and meet your fellow 40+ peers we have a muffin waiting for you...

If you look around you'll find a Parents Forum and you'll also find a place for the kids if they are on
the spectrum.

Hey! I have five kids, one with AS (a video game programmer in Seattle area) and one with autism plus (a lady of leisure). I'd love to be a physicist, but I don't have the aptitude, and got a BS in medical technology.
There are good articles on this site, and a parent's forum. As for getting any tangible use of the place, I'm not sure you will find anything so cut and dried. It is a place to visit with people of similar wiring. Some are pleasant neighbors, and some you are glad you only meet online.
