Hello

I'm not sure if I'm in the right place but I took a couple of tests online (three times, each a month apart as a best-of-three kind of deal) and they both said repeatedly that I am likely to be an Aspie. (I also reported a grammatical error in one of them which wasn't remedied and was therefore extremely irritating - I guess that's an Aspie thing, too? :) ) Consequently, I found WP and have been lurking for a month or so.

I'm not sure what to do with the tests results and am feeling rather confused about it all. I do seem to share characteristics with people here and, reading the posts, I've been exclaiming 'Wow, I do that too' quite a lot. Looking back, I can also see definite correlations with events in my own childhood and those that you guys have reported here. However, I think I also have reasonable NT skills, even if they don't come totally naturally. But then again, maybe they're not as good as I think because I repeatedly scored 66/200 for NT. Yes, I am confused!

Right now, I don't know whether to go after a formal diagnosis or not. My current gut feeling is probably not as it won't change anything.

Anyway, perhaps of more interest, I'm 40 (how the hell did that happen!!) and managed to get out of rat-race employment a couple of years ago to set up my own business, which is going well so far. My lifelong obsessions are horses and dogs. I'm not particularly technologically gifted - I lean more towards the arts.

I'm looking forward to getting to know people here and being able to contribute usefully to the community.

:D

Hereabouts we don't put much emphasis on a clinical DX. If it makes you feel better, then do it. If it gets you some benefit from your medical insurance, then do it. Otherwise, it's just another piece of paper...

And oh yes, welcome to WP and all that...

That's kind of what I feel at the moment. I'm not likely to change personality now, so there's plenty of time to decide about a formal DX. Although I vaguely knew of AS and autism I didn't know the details. I just thought I was a bit odd compared to everyone else.

Thanks for the welcome, guys and, no I don't feel particularly terrorised, Prof Pretorius. Not yet, anyway

Welcome. And I wouldn't be too worried about diagnoses, we won't care.

Hi Macallan,
I don't know if you're aware of this or not, but research clearly shows that most self diagnosed folks who go on to get a formal dxn later turn out to be correct in their dx- 90 some odd percent accurate. Thus, you are probably correct anyway even without a formal dx. You know who you are; that's all that matters.

Welcome Macallan,

A Dx says you have two heads, and are green, that will be $500, now go away.

So then what?

I think Ya'll are a lovely shade of green.

Anyone can fact check, takes an aspie to error check.

Nothing to do but hang out and play.

This WP worldwide community is a new thing, we all thought we were just wierd, one of a kind.

Now we find a culture like us, our long lost twins.

The NT world will not change, but our's has.

From a developmental disability, to developing mutant super powers.

Less than 1% have discovered this site in some three and a half years.

Someday soon that might be 25%.

So hang aroung, learn through service, and become a Noble in The New Empire.
