I'm 30 years old and I just found out that its highly likely I have Asperger's. I think this site is a great resource, but after so long being alone in the way I feel I am discovering that I have some resistance to "belonging". I have obviously decided to take the leap and post this, but I am still leery. At the moment I just cant seem to get my feelings straight about all of this.

yeah, i can totally relate; i felt the same way last year when i figured out i have aspergers. My parents have it too. It was a huge relief to know we were not weird, we were just different, is all. really!

there's this window of transition, when you realize who you really are, and you realize who you've been trying so hard to be, and it's a collision of mindsets. Everything will be fine, you'll see.

If i could impart a very important point: don't concentrate so much on the "weaknesses" of being an aspie, but focus on the positives/strengths. It's an NT world, so yeah, you dont quite fit; big deal, that's THEIR problem! haha NTs are boring; aspies are fascinating! welcome the fascination...

I didn't figure it out til I was 48. There are a lot of us who only realized later in life that we probably have this condition.

Yep, I get how you feel. Pretty much that way myself. It's nice to finally answer the "what the hell is wrong with me" question though. (Well, since I'm not yet diagnosed, there's still a chance I really am just a freak.)

Thank you everyone. While its all a mish mash right now, I do see the light at the end of the tunnel for the first time in my life. Its not hard to concentrate on the good, I never thought there was anything wrong with me just that I was different. It will take some times to come to terms with it, but knowing is the first step.

It is very strange, but the folks are telling you true,

from total weirdo to ordinary Aspie, is just one small step.

Late discovery was my path, I think I have the best of both worlds.

I explored on my own, learned who I was, then found it explained.

A hundred traits, each held more or less, times personalities, situation.

Book learning, official words, 6,540% of me, and I was looking to explain 100%.

I have the guide of my life to sort through all of lives, the spectrum.

I am nothing like some, more so than some, less so than others.

AS is, A Culture of One.

Know Thyself.
