my name is Danny and i am 52 year old scot living in Hampshire uk.

I was diagnosed with Aspergers earlier this year and have been busy trying to understand the complex being that is within me.

it certainly answers a lot of questions explaining my not so normal behaviour throughout my life and you know what...i am comfortable with most of myself now that i know a name for what is me.

i have become a better person within myself since being diagnosed and am able to concentrate on certain issues..like trying not be be so single tracked when i am in company.

thankfully , i have a bit of the hippy left in me and can chill a lot more than i used to

more later

Hello and welcome. :) There are a number of members here that have been diagnosed after 40. They can be found posting on the Dino Aspie Ex-cafe thread or in the In-depth Adult forum and of course, on all of the other threads. I hope you enjoy your time spent here.

(A little inner hippie is a good thing to have. I still let mine out now and again. )

I was also, correctly diagnosed earlier this year with Asperger's Syndrome...after years of mistreatment and abuse in the mental
health care system since I was 12 years old. I agree that it feels like a tremendous burden has been lifted from me.

The hardest part is finding appropriate services for us adults because so much is geared toward the treatment of children up to the age of twenty-one...and once they age out of the school years, most kids and their parents are left to fend on their own.
Yet, with so many kids being diagnosed with AS these days, there should be a great increase in the number of treatment providers and services for adults as such kids age...fortunately a good thing in the future!

Hi, Danny!

There seem to be a lot of Scots who have AS!

Hi H9_Danny,
I am 41 and was diagnosed with AS six years ago at the age of 35. I can relate to you somewhat. I have become progressively better at learning to deal with my AS--partly as a result of aging and partly thanks to medicine and therapy. When I recieved my diagnosis it was a big relief in the sense that it explained so much that I didn't understand about myself--FINALLY!--but it has also brought some unexpected problems as well, (which I am currenty struggling with.) Discovering WP has been a godsend for me as I hope it will prove to be for you. Welcome.
