Hi all, just found WP and thought I'd join and say hi. I'm 25/male from wisconsin. This place seems like a great resource for those with AS. I look forward to spending time on the forums and possibly making a friend or two. That's it for now! Take care.

Hi urbanfarmer

Welcome to WP.

I hope you enjoy posting here.

Do you do farm work, or do you just like that screen name?

Hi all, thanks for the warm welcome. I consider myself to be an urban farmer. I produce a good percentage of the vegetables that I consume. Each year I try to produce more for myself and would someday like to do a little bit of selling of produce at farmers markets. I live in a small town on a little less than half an acre, so my production is limited by the amount of land I have. I'm considering chickens within the next year or two and am always looking for more ways to become self sufficient. Eventually I'd like to live in the country on 15 or more acres. I'd love to hear from people with similar interests/goals!

Excellent! Have you seen 'River Cottage'? I love working in farms. It is calming. Living in town gives me a headache, but that's often where jobs and incomes are.

I haven't seen River Cottage. I'll have to see if I can find a copy of it and give it a watch. I don't mind living in town too much, although being so close to neighbors puts a damper on having any sort of livestock. I grow a good portion of my own vegetables since I have enough room for that.

If you don't mind me asking, how did you acquire the land. Quite an achievement at your age.

I think 'Escape to River Cottage' is the first of the series.

I don't own all that much land, a little less than half an acre. The property has a small two bedroom house on it, which is my residence. I purchased the property when I was 22. I've been working since I was in my mid teens. I always enjoyed getting my hands dirty and had wanted to own my own property since I was about 18. What I own now is sufficient for growing whatever veggies I need and some chickens/rabbits if I so choose. If I wanted larger livestock I'd need to move to the country with more land, which eventually is the end goal. It may be 10 to 15 years away, but that's the goal. Solar panels, wood stove-all that kinda stuff that goes with country living/self sufficiency. I know that's not what the bulk of people my age want out of life, but that's what I want. It will involve sacrifice and hard work, but I'm willing to do what it takes to get to that point.
