I'm 20. About a year and a half ago, a friend of mine expressed the suspicion, that I was slightly autistic. I started informing myself a bit (wikipedia and stuff) and came across an article on Asperger's. After i read through it, i diagnosed myself as having slight AS. Back then i didn't give it much though, I guess i took it as something to hang everything on about me that was different from other people. Talked with a couple of people from my family about it and they agreed that I have certain inclinations into that direction but didn't see it as that big a deal. 3 days ago, I was chatting with my mum and she said she had looked into AS a bit and also talked to someone who had it and she said that she is very glad that she found this out, because it makes her understand much better how I have behaved in the past etc... In the last days, I've started trying to come to terms with it, understand myself and see what this means for my life. Hopefully this forum will help me.
I suppose AS isn't too prominent in me. E.g. I do enjoy social interaction, have no problem with physical contact etc. But there are many other things. I have been bullied in school for nearly 10 years. I usually had a reputation as "walking encyclopedia". I often fail to notice irony. Sometimes don't realize when people tell me ludicrous lies. Often i don't notice when people aren't actually interested in what I'm saying and have troubles doing small-talk, usually end up talking about myself.
Some social constructs don't make so much sense to me, like the generic chit-chat at the beginning of a phone call which is supposed to be about exchanging information. I also often point out if someone has made a mistake and people take offense in that.
I have a very specific (and most people would call it very limited) taste in food. I am slightly hypersensitive to cold temperatures.
I used to have temper problems, but fortunately managed to completely banish that from my life. Now the only things that can actually make me angry are the sound of flies or mosquitoes when i try to concentrate, and the helplessness resulting from trying to argue with people who are not open for reasonable discussion.
In the past couple of years I've had a constant feeling of loneliness and sadness. I try to channel that into creative energy by writing poems, short stories and songs.
Anyways, it feels good to be able to talk about these things anonymously and in an environment where people don't judge you for being different and i hope this will help me to come to terms with this "being different" to which i can now at least assign a name.

Just a little bit about me: My interests are movies, writing, reading, quantum physics, fantasy role play games, web programming (well, that's my job). I want to study physics and am aiming for a doctorate (well, that's still a while till then i suppose )

Sounds good, I'll consider it One of my favourite movies atm is "The Fountain" by Darren Aronofsky. I've actually wanted for some time sit down to watch it with pen and paper and analyze it scene by scene .

I also love movies. I'm studying film at my University so I get to watch them (and make them) for homework...

I just had to write a 73 shot list from a scene in Apocalypse Now, and I still have to write an essay on it >.<!

Just had a very interesting experience. As part of this coming to terms thing I told a very good friend (over chat) about my situation.

That had me thinking a bit. Hadn't thought it was so obvious what exactly constituted my "weirdness"

Yay...another writer! I write poetry and well...attempt short stories lol. I always end up with new ideas and start again, so I never end up completing anything.

I know what you mean. I manage to complete my short stories, but i have that thing with books I've tried at least 5 times to write a book and got stuck somewhere in between 500 and 5000 words. I just started another attempt, but this time i wrote an outline before, that's supposed to help Set myself a target, that by the 21st i HAVE TO HAVE 10,000 words. After that i see, where i set my next short-term target.
