I should not of called myself cataspie because ive found out you are only classes as aspie if you have no speech delay.I have not been told properly about my past untill last year though i know i was neglected. My mother told me that no one told me about autism to much because they wanted me to feel normal. This did not work i have never felt normal and to make things worse i thought i was the only one.I have always felt like an alien or something. For a while i liked vampires and dressed up like one of tv though not very girly like because the clothes would drive me mad.I should of been told a long time ago.
I started talking when i was 4 and then in monotone.
I had trouble following instructions.
I would at times come across as deaf and even got my hearing tested.
I still to this day remember parts of things i used to own in great detail,i have to go through a few pictures in parts to get the whole thing.
I toe walk
I repeat what ive said alot to this day even lost a boyfriend because of it
I remember stareing at coloured lights and feeling almost drugged up of doing so.
Eye contact feels horrible
I play with my hair
I miss the joke alot
I become the joke alot
My senses are very acute
I used to refuse to wear clothes
Sometimes i talk to quiet or to loud
I feel like i cant get older mentally
I get absorbed in cartoons when my son is watching them
I like running my fingers over my scalp and smelling my fingers
I always used to smell everything and chew things up untill my foster mum made me chew a nappy.
I am very bad at social things unless i plan them in my mind before i go.
This list could go on for a very long time so i will stop here.
Aspie is a name for someone who is on the spectrum and had no speech delay so my name is incorrect which is driving me mad i have even wrote to get permission to change it but no response yet.But maybe having aspie in my name is correct if my delayed speech was a result of neglect for the first few years.

From what your saying here it seems to me you are Aspie. I dont think a speech delay is enough to say your not Aspie although I dont see much difference between Aspie and HFA.

Even Dr Hans Asperger himself diagnoses AS to include people with speech delay.

"There is some consensus in the scientific community that the absence of language delay criterion for AS should be eliminated. Indeed, if the current DSM-IV criteria were used, none of Hans Asperger's four case studies in his initial paper would be classified as having AS." You can appeal to the moderators if you would like to change your name. As you feel that strongly that it is incorrect (and logically so), please do! They are very nice people.

Hi cataspie. Welcome to WP. Feel free to call yourself anything you want (within reason, obviously!).

Now, down to business:

Oh. It sounds as though you've had a really tough time of it. Don't stress over the name and welcome to the club!

The speech delay thing is disputed by some experts on Asperger`s.

I read your name completely differently when I saw it.

"cat as pie"

I'm relieved to learn you're not a chef who specializes in feline pastries.

I like the name too.

I read it yet again differently... as some sort of special undercover spy.... a cata-spy.

Then I looked it up, and if you were "lit" inside, you would become "cataspi-lit-e"...

cataspilite: A hydrous silicate of alumina, with some iron, manganese, etc.; an ash-grey pearly mineral found in Sweden.

And there, I'll stop, before my mind wanders too far. :)

Welcome to WP, cataspie.
