I was told about this site by an msn contact a while ago and today I thought I would sign up.
I have a 5 year old on the Spectrum and often find him to be very confusing, frustrating and quite honestly weird. He has tiptoed ever since he could walk (17 months old), he didn't really talk alot till he was 3.5 years, he flaps, makes noises, rocks, head bangs (soft surfaces now thankfully) and does other things as well. His speech can be very very strange at times.
I hope to meet others here who are either in same position as me or ones who can help me understand my boy better

Hello and welcome! I am also mom to ASD children. I have 2 teen sons with Asperger's, a teen son with ADHD and Asperger traits and a daughter who is dx'ed ADHD but seems to have Asperger's. I have found this site to be a great place for advice, support and friendship.

I'm in the same boat - have a 7 yo aspie and a 4 yo HFA. (and I'm aspie myself so I remember lots).

I've got lots of experience but wouldn't say I'm a great parent who has workable answers to everything. I do my best in the circumstances.

I cringe when you say weird, but I think as you grow in understanding you will learn that all behaviour has a reason even if we don't know what it is.
I'm so tired of people calling me weird. But as my mom taught me, if I have a problem with someone, it's my problem, not their's. So, sorry about the cringing.
I hope you have a good time here, and maybe your son will enjoy kid's crater.

lelia, I do apologise for saying weird. To me it does seem weird when he wants to lick something or like before he came over and smelt my icecream before walking away. I guess it is just my ignorance really but I am learning to accpet more

It sounds like you will be a wonderful, concerned Mother to your little aspie. It may help you to realize that some of us are just looking at the world from a different position than most people. Actions that seem weird, or strange, to you may make perfect sense to your son. Learn a little about how he views the world and it may help you to understand his actions. Good luck.

as a matter of fact, I love interacting with other people and was hoping that maybe I could help others like you, too. I am friendly enough.

From your first post, I was reminded of a sensitivity to touch. personally, I am sensitive to the touch on my feet (not so much that I tiptoe, but a single touch when I get a pedicure will make them jerk)

That can feel like I am constantly having sandpaper rubbed against the soles of my feet. Usually, though, while I am sensitive to touch while getting a pedicure, I've found that have the dead skin removed from my feet helps a lot.

I have 3 sons aged 9, 7 and 4. My oldest two have been diagnosed with Asperger's and my 3rd is showing many traits.

I have learned so much from my sons. They drive me crazy at times, but mostly I enjoy them.
