Ok, I've succumbed

I've finally joined WP after lurking for several weeks. I've decided that I've become sufficiently unobsessed with ASD to allow myself to join and not worry that it will consume my entire day.

Well hello.

I don't know what I have.

In 1989 at the age of 8 I was evaluated due to academic and behavioural issues. They said three things:

1. I had no learning disabilities.
2. My memory was at the level of a 15 year old.
3. I was severely lacking in social skills and I needed to be in a group to learn them or else it would just get worse.

I did not join the group.
It got worse.
But then it got better.
I am now 26. Life has taught me how to 'fit in'. I use my brain to socialize. It is a game of logic. Sometimes I win. A lot of times I don't. It's an act and I play the part.

But I don't feel the part.

At 24 I was diagnosed with innattentive ADD. That explained my academic difficulties. But it did not explain my social difficulties.

I became aware of Asperger's syndrome when I met my cousins 4 year old affected son 10 weeks ago. I've been obsessed with it since.

I took some online tests. I scored 35 out of 50 on one and 118 out of 200 on the other.

I think I'm at the edge of the spectrum somewhere.
But there are a lot of symptoms that I don't have or that are not intense enough to reach significance above the general neurotypical population.

So here I am, learning about myself.

I have a lot on my mind that I hope to share.

Hi Knaidle, I kind of in the same place u are. I've always had social problems and academic problems because of ADD. We have a strange, unmarried, loner uncle in the family that causes us problems now and then because he's so anti-social. Sometimes I wonder if I'm "different" because I was raised with anti-social role models. I like people but they do drain me of energy. And I don't like a lot of noise or confusion. I prefer quiet places and one-on-one conversations. I'm curious about those online tests. Could u tell me where u found them? I don't think it's allowed to say on this website because that's like advertising, but maybe you could send them to me in a private message? Thanks!
