Old guy here. I had not heard about Asperger's until about a year ago. However, when I heard about it I studied it a bit (surprise, huh!), a light came on, and I thought 'Bingo!'. I know I've been a little different all my life and I think I have finally found a name for it. When I took a couple of the recommended evaluations that I've seen linked to from WP, they came up 'probably would be diagnosed...'

I'm 54 -- like I said, I'm old -- and have managed to muddle my way through life to this point. I live in central Iowa.

I've been in software development most of my life, now I'm a Six Sigma Black Belt (don't ask - no, it has nothing to do with martial arts).

I must have Asperger's as I signed up for the site a couple of weeks ago, and am finally getting around to posting something. :D

It's good to know that I'm not the only person on the planet like me!

Welcome! I'm in the same boat u r! I was told my husband had Asperger's (he does have OCD) and wanted to prove it to him one night. So I googled symptoms and found this:
Signs and symptoms of Asperger's syndrome include:

Engaging in one-sided, long-winded conversations, without noticing if the listener is listening or trying to change the subject
Displaying unusual nonverbal communication, such as lack of eye contact, few facial expressions, or awkward body postures and gestures
Showing an intense obsession with one or two specific, narrow subjects, such as baseball statistics, train schedules, weather or snakes
Appearing not to understand, empathize with, or be sensitive to others' feelings
Having a hard time "reading" other people or understanding humor
Speaking in a voice that is monotonous, rigid or unusually fast
Moving clumsily, with poor coordination
Having an odd posture or a rigid gait
Retrieved on February 6, 2008 from website: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/asperg ... DSECTION=2

OMG! It wasn't him...it was me! So, I found out about this site and took some tests and the results say "you very likely will be able to receive the dx for asperger's." That blew my mind. I also have depression, so I thought that my "weirdness" were med. side effects. I'm 47 and just figuring myself out. I'm wondering if I should be on different meds. What I'm currently on makes my mind move like molasses. We have an NT daughter (she's really bummed her parents are so weird), so I try my best to be as normal as I can for her when we are in public. But at home, I'm totally free 2 b me (guess that's why I like to stay home a lot).

Kind of long-winded, but welcome to Camp Aspie!

Michelle --

Don't think you're the only one with depression...

I had the molasses feeling from Prozac when I took it a few years ago. This time around, I'm on other stuff and feel more-or-less normal... Whatever that is!

Two of my daughters work with special needs children, maybe they learned how to do it so well growing up around me! I haven't 'come out' to my daughters about Asperger's yet. I'm still trying to wrap my mind around it myself. I'll wait for a formal diagnosis before I tell them.

Yup, home is where I'm comfortable at, too.

Glad to meet you!

Anybody younger then I am is still a kid. It takes time to get old and the older I get the younger I get. I just wish I could convince my body.
Very refreshing to see that name/term, big breath of fresh air isn't it. My AHA!! moment, my life suddenly fell into place..err most of it.
Welcome home.

When in doubt, ask an autistic. Chances are, they're obsessed with what you need to know.

I'm gnu today. Although, I've been lurking for a couple of years now as a "guest".

I found out that I'm Aspie through a friend of mine whose son was Dx.

I decided to join today because well, I don't know why, I just did. So here I am.

hello.

Oh... and I suppose nobody will mind if I make inappropriate posts now and again? ;)
