:D greetings from New Mexico. I just joined in hopes of learning more about AS as I think I may have have it myself. It's symptoms and behavior patterns hit remarkably close to home. I just finished 10 years of touring with The Ringling Bros, Barnum & Bailey Circus and have moved into the real world to find my social skills and interactions are well in dire need of repair. I've run through the criteria of AS but I've not been officially diagnosed.

I am currently self employed with no health insurance and in the midst of setting up gigs. Most information I've run across on AS focuses just on parents and their children with AS. Can anyone refer me to resources for Adults with AS, who can I talk to?

Welcome!

I've found that there are little resources for adults on the autistic spectrum.

Your best bet is to ask a family member or go to the library and raid their "How to Communicate 101" books.

Also, have you contacted your local Vocational Rehabiltation? Look under "Disabilities". The program available in in Maryland is called "Disability Office of Rehabiltation Services" (DORS) [like disabilities need rehabed like an alcoholic!]. Also, try Googling "[Your State] and services for autistic adults" (without quotation marks). If that doesn't work, Google "[Your State] and autism center" (again, without quotation marks).

Good luck!

There's not really much out there. There are undoubtedly some speciality programs, as long as you have enough cash to pay for them, but what they actually do beyond telling you what you already know....?

OK a lot off topic but you might find this interesting. Genealogy is one of my hobbies and I was researching a story about one of my great-grandfathers who amazingly has hundreds of descendents! So was quite surprised to find about 30 people researching him and his siblings. It was always said that he had a Circus connection somehow, I've never quite got to the root of it, but he was a Strongman and WRESTLED WITH BEARS! All the researchers seemed to confirm this story. Years later I discovered that his cousin had been recruited by Barnum & Bailey and had founded a family in the US. Never got much further with that line, but I think it confirms that there probably was a Circus connection and that my ancestor really probably did wrestle with bears! Weird fact is I went to his hometown last year and met old men in the pub who could still talk about his fetes of strength! Remarkable since he died in the 1950's!

Hi, a big welcome

The best help as an adult is to learn from others on the autism spectrum, I found being diagnosed as an adult has helped me to understand myself and at last find the real me!
