...figured I'd throw that enquiry in there, just to have a slightly different introductory topic heading.

Hi, guys. I'm not sure how early I was diagnosed, but I wasn't told until a few years ago. I joined last week and went on a bit of a posting spree- sorry about that, I was just a bit overwhelmed with how many of your stories I could personally relate to.

Anyhow, this is my dog:

He is undoubtably the only reason I'm able to smile in front of a camera. Any dog lovers here? I've read that sometimes autistic children can connect better with animals than people. I know I've often felt my emotions are more natural when relating to dogs.

Nice to meet you all.

-Elizabeth

(If you have doggies, post them :D )

Hello, Elizabeth. I love dogs and have 2, one is an emotional support dog for me and my youngest Aspie and the other is my little girl's dog. Pongo (my dog) is a border collie/golden retriever and Jedi is a Shih tzu/ Bishon. I've also had dogs the entire time I was growing up and can't imagine my life without one.

These are my canine babies:

I connect to dogs right away even if im a complete stranger to them.

I'm usually getting kisses right off the bat. with people however.... well thats a different story all together.

I have a sweet bull boxer mix and without her I don't think I could make it on my own too well. her company has been such a great comfort. plus if I didn't have to walk her I probably wouldn't leave the house for several weeks at a time.

I'm trying to convince my 2-1/2 yo Weimaranar to let me type right now, typos could be his actions of muzzle seeking attention. Beside him is my elderly Black Lab, 15+ yo. In the basement, my son's 3 yo Beagle is helping him on his computer. No pics, maybe some day I'll find my round tuit.

Hi Elisabeth,

Nice dog you have, it makes me wanna have a dog too... :D
(I have a small apartment, I guess dogs need space like a garden to run and stuff?)
I connect very well to dogs, but some dogs totally hate me and try to scare the hell out of me :? .

My brother (17) is autistic and is mentally on the level of a 3.5 year old (he doesnt speak). He has got a big rabbit that he loves and kisses and hugs.

My dogs saved me...when I moved out I almost didn't make it the first year, but then I got a dog and she is the light of my life. I used to work at a doggie day care but I couldn't take the noise and the dogs jumping up on me...it was incredibly stressful and I would just retreat to a corner (which I got in trouble for), but there was one big dog in particular that would stand by me and lean against my legs and calm me down so I got through the work day just petting him.

Has anyone ever had a realtionship with someone where they were more interested in visting their dogs than them most of the time? I've actually done this. although I learned to like the dog owners too.

This was at a time in my life when I wasn't allowed to have pets and I lived in a very hostile environment. being able ot hug those dogs was very comforting.

Welcome Elizabeth,

Pets are really important for kids. When I was little, my sister and I had a border collie (who lasted 18 years and was my best friend), 2 ducks, a turtle (who ran away... slowly), 2 sulphur crested cockatoos, two mice (who escaped), lots of frogs and tadpoles and a cat (who didn't last very long).

It took a long time to feed them all.

Now I'm down to one dog, a Sitsu-Maltese called Panda...
Here she is relaxing with a Bacardi Breezer...

Hi nice to meet you and welcome.

Yeah dogs are great. Mine is my best friend and companion. She's always there for me and I love her to bits.
