As an example, and not to pick on her, every time SilverProteus' avatar of Sweeny Todd pops up I get really uncomfortable and imagine that I'm in for reading a nasty, judgmental diatribe. And then the message is "Welcome to WP! I hate feeling this way, :? and wonder if others have the same reaction to avatars.

So did a few other people. I think it was the bow tie my mom made me wear. Or a resemblance to Damien in The Omen?

By the way, ShadesOfMe, your avatar looks constipated.

I get this; it's terrible. I find that when I look at my own avatar I find myself irresistibly attractive.

Euphoria from the power of head-explody is indeed a very alluring trait.

You illustrate my question nicely, ford_prefects_kid. When I see your avatar I think that it's too early in the morning wherever you live for you to have much to say, but you're posts are really creative. That dog looks kind of tired and out of it.

I'm surprised by the number of female posters here who use male avatars, and by their astonishment at being mistaken for males. Come to think of it, I'm surprised by the number of female posters here, period. I'm used to Internet forums being predominantly male (simply because men spend more time in front of their computers than women), and I thought AS was more frequent in boys than in girls?

I've been astonished by the high number of girls on Wrong Planet when compared to other forums I frequent.

And Alex, I'm just not worthy to comment on your avatar, except, as Dr. Evil would say, "It's breathtaking."

I identify with males, even though I'm supposedly a female. I also don't care about post-modern society. That's why I have Sid in my avatars. I also take it as a compliment to be seen as a male. I don't wish to be a female, according to what North American society thinks that a female between 18 and 35 should dress, act, look and speak like.

What type of reaction does my avatar generate?

CockneyRebel, Your avatar often matches the content of your posts, but knowing that you're female, it can lead to a false perception. HOWEVER, people on the autistic spectrum, for whatever reason, often do not feel compelled to follow the modes of their day. My dad liked washing dishes and my mom liked huntin' critters. A lot of "typical" people would think that is weird. We seem to have a logic and efficiency of thinking that ignores what others impose on us as "the thing to do." And maybe that is why there are more females posting on WrongPlanet than one would expect.

P.S. Sid the Rat is definitely not as anxiety-producing as Sweeny Todd staring me down. You know, it's the eyes thing.

I hope my posts match my avatar. I have the feeling a lot don't recognize him.

My favorite show was Gargoyles this is Brooklyn from gargoyles my favorite character on the show. I think fo him as very noble. In the background is the Phoenix gate which is a time travel magical artifact.

the picture was drawn by a well known fan artist for the fanfic series featuring Brooklyn called Timedancer where he end up bouncing around through time and space helping people much like Dr Who although there is no tie in to Dr Who.

Same here (BTW: this is a female Tux).
