[i][b] I am Jessica and my youngest lil man Austin is my diagnosed Aspie. I firmly believe I have 2 others-- my hubby and my 14 yr old but getting the Dx is another story. We just live the life and it works for us best.
Austin was born 8 weeks early and diagnosed first with Sensory Integration Dysfunction. Then on to the Aspergers and ADD to boot.So he has been receiving services from preschool on, thank goodness. I have been the battle mom from he** in that respect. The school knows the sound of my telephone ring in the CSE office. I swear they do.
He is the best. He struggles more as he gets older and expectations are increased. and kids are more mean as they get older and he "looks" typical. I wish he would have the courage, the.. hmmm.. oopmh and maybe I will be able to build it in him before middle school to get in front of the crowds.. to teach awareness and show them the sense of humor I know and love. Talk about Autism Awareness month  he liked that dude so I inserted him for him.. LOL.people in our community tend to be appearance dependant and it just stinks. If they cannot see whats wrong--- they do not think about it.

Gday Jessica,

Sounds like Austin is a very lucky boy. Welcome to WrongPlanet, and I hope you enjoy your stay.

Plenty of other parents around to get advice off and receive sympathy from. And plenty of Aspies around to give you lots of information on lots of different topics no matter what might already be being discussed :D

Welcome Jessica! I'm new here as well, but I think you'll find this community very supportive. There's so much friendliness and good advice here! I was interested to read the story of your family. How old is little Austin now? It's always tough for kids when they don't fit in. I understand what you mean by this:

"I wish he would have the courage, the.. hmmm.. oopmh and maybe I will be able to build it in him before middle school to get in front of the crowds.. to teach awareness and show them the sense of humor I know and love."

And I wish you the best of luck in building up his self esteem!! He sounds like a great kid.

Hi jessi7675 welcome to the "right" Planet.. 8O

I have aspergers and my 14 year old son has non verbal learning disorder and aspergers traits, not sure about his diagnosis but ok for now. To honest my biggest problem seems to by discrimination by others, as quite often people keep at arms length what they do not understand, but can understand this to a point as this time last year had never been heard of aspergers myself.. things are changing very slowly, but at least your son has you who wants to know and understand.

There will always be diversity and differences in this world, as we are all born as unique individuals, but the important thing is to embrace these differences, not try and change or fight against them.

Welcome to WP from another battle mum from he**.

I have 3 sons - 9, 7 and 4. My 9 year old and 7 year old have been diagnosed with Asperger's. I wouldn't surprised if my 4 year old ends up with an Asperger's diagnosis later, but I haven't pursued a diagnosis yet.

My sons are extremely private about their Asperger's.

Like you, I would love for them to be proud of who they are, and become Autism/Aspie advocates when they're older.

Helen
