I am new to the WrongPlanet forum and wanted to quickly introduce myself before I begin posting. I have joined the forum because my 4.5 year old son (only child so far) is labeled HFA/Asperger's and I could certainly benefit from belonging to a community such as this. My son was diagnosed at the age of two as falling on the Autism Spectrum and has been receiving early intervention services continuously over the past two and a half years. A few months ago we consulted with a Developmental Pediatrician and it was determined that our son is HFA/Asperger's. I look forward to interacting with you all!

Ah, a Vonnegut fan. Here's one of my favorite quotes: "How nice - to feel nothing, and still get full credit for being alive."

Welcome to Wrong Planet. Being wrong never felt so right.

Vonnegut rules.
I wanted the 'war in reverse' segment as my username.

Thank you all for your kind welcomes. I did not mean to post an introduction and then disappear for two months - two days after posting I found that I was pregnant (my husband and I had been trying for quite some time). The pregnancy sickness was horrendous and I was unable to focus on much of anything outside of my home and immediate family. Three weeks ago we found that I suffered a missed miscarriage - the embryo ceased developing at 9 weeks and I was unaware until my 13 week doctor appointment. I am now feeling much better - physically and emotionally - and I am looking forward to spending more time reading, responding, and posting to the boards.

Soon,
I am originally from Falmouth, Maine, but my parents and I moved to NC in 1987 (I was 10). I miss Maine terribly, but I get back home as often as possible. Will be there in August (if all goes well) and I can't wait! Nice to see another Maine-iac on the board. :)

Thank you for the welcome, Social_Fantom. Are the North Carolinians largely unrepresented in these boards? I have been in NC for 20 years and I really like it here. I've heard that Wake County is a great area to be if you have a child on the spectrum or if you are on the spectrum yourself. My almost 5 year old is HFA/AS and I will soon find out if the public school system is as great as I have heard. So far I must say that the people I have had dealings with in the Early Intervention department have been open to my opinions/theories/ideas regarding my son and his way of being - I hope it stays the same as he grows as I don't want him to feel as though he is broken and needs mending in order to be like the other kids. He is who he is and I'm here to help him find his happiness in Life. I'm probably babbling (allergy meds tend to make me a little loopy).

Anyways, thanks for the welcome and I am certain that I will enjoy my time here.

~Michelle
