Hi,
I'm so pleased to have found this website!
I have a 4 year old son with Asperger's. He is a bright, clever, loving boy. He loves spinning objects and has an ovewhelming interest in washing machines (and to a lesser extent, tumble driers and dishwashers). He knows all the brand names of the machines and likes to talk about the different wash cycles. He also likes car names / badges and counting to 100 and beyond! I feel lucky to have such a special boy but parenting him brings lots of challenges! My biggest hope is that in the years to come that my son will be happy and confident, not only at school but at home and when we are out and about. My biggest fear is that he will be bullied and grow up to feel isolated in society although my hubby and I will do everything we can to support him. He has a 2 year old brother and they adore each other (long may it continue!)
He starts mainstream school in September and I will be meeting the head teacher and the autism outreach team soon, to plan his transition.
I'm sure I'm going to spend a lot of time on this board in the future. It is so interesting and helpful to read posts from people with Asperger's.
Thanks for reading my message.

Nice to meet you MattsMum.

re: bullying... There's no need for concern yet. Bullying won't start before about Year 3 - and if you pick a good school, it might not happen at all.

gbollard, I was bullied from kindergarten on, I'll have you know. Which does not mean it will have to happen to Matt.
Hey mom, I'm glad you're here. You might like some of the sticky topics on the parent forum.
It sounds like you are doing one incredible job.

Lelia,

Your age is listed as 55 so I'm not surprised you were bullied in Kindergarten.

50 years ago, bullying was an compulsory subject in both school and society (and the worst bullying came from teachers, not kids). These days, bullying is less tolerated.

believe it or not, I was friends with most of the teachers. In fact, at that time in my life all my friends had white hair.
