Hey,

I'm a 16 year old guy from London, GB. I was a given an AS diagnosis when I was 9, but since then I've grown out of it. So it was a probably a misdiagnosis or something. Even though my psychologist knows that, he still won't change the diagnosis.

Either way I’m here to meet others with the disorder, and to convince myself that not all aspies are “freaks” and “nerds”. Man I hate that term “aspie”. I don't seem myself as a nerd; though some think Asperger’s is an extreme nerdiness or something. Can't you just be calm and collected like James Bond and have AS without being a nerd?

The last thing I want is to be considered "special" or patronized, as my previous AS diagnosis ruined my life. I hate it when people think I'm impaired by my AS symptoms - it makes up my strengths not my weaknesses. My dad's bipolar disorder and his manic episodes have resulted in trauma ever since I was a kid.

Hell I don't even know if I have the disorder, either way - how's it going?

Hey wecolme to wrong planet and I can tell you, I know how you feel! I've grown out of it too, but my doctor still thinks i has AS and she won't change the diagnosis!! !

I hate the term 'aspie' too because it actually makes me feel like a freak, even though I know i am not.

And yes.. my diagnois has ruined my life. I was fine until my diagnosis.

Hey.

I call myself an aspie all the time. And for the record some people around here, like me, might get a little offended if you call it a disorder or a disability. Never call it a disease unless you have a death wish.

Welcome to the forum Trident_infinity!! :D

Don't think of having AS as being a freak, we're just different than others. I would rather be different than be a sheep. 8)

Wow, social fantom! That's a good way of putting it!

And do you prefer the musical or the book?

Thanks, I get that a lot. It is exactly how I feel in society. When I joined, I never imagined people would like it so much. :P

I would have to say the musical since I've never read the book.

Thanks a lot for the warm welcoming. It feels great to actually meet people with AS. Whether or not it's virtual or not.

Exactly, well said, I'm the lead singer and rhythm guitar guitarist of a punk rock band "The Parallax". I hate everything mainstream (except for some artists), I love being unique and original (if everybody has a labrador, I just get a siberian husky), so I guess that fits. :D

Hello! I am also one of those who has "grown out" of having full blown AS symptoms, although at times things such as prolonged eye contact, etc,. are still causing me trouble. I am usually a nice person to hang around, with a rather weird and witty sense of sarcasm and humor, coupled with a mental compilation of in-jokes and memes that come from watching WAY too mcuh anime. Sometimes I flip out about little things, but that gets less as the years roll by. Oh, and I am 17 and about a month away from the end of my Junior HS year. If there's one thing that makes me downright homicidal though, its all the stories I hear about Auties and Aspies being abused (and, being a fan of Harry Potter and Death Note, you'll hear me mention such things as "shiningami" and "Avada Kedavra" a lot around these threads  ) I think that's jsut because I want to protect the people that i meet here, though.

But frankly, who cares about me? You're the new guy here, tell us about yourself.

Sayo for now!

Roxas
