I've tried joining local aspie groups. The problem with those (at least in usa, not sure about other countries) is that all the members are parents of children who have anything on the Autistic spectrum. The kids get all the attention, and if you are much older than 12-15, you get none. In my case, I've seen several Drs./Physcs in the past, and they all misdiagnosed me, so I thought I was doing something wrong when really it was AS affecting my ability to make friends and fit in socially. I only knew I had AS and what it was about 6-9 months ago when my mom started to date a master's degree therapist with 2 Autistic children of his own. Since then I've seen my family Dr., 2 assistant Drs. to the Pysch and the Psych himself. They all agree I have AS. I'd like to see how many others are interested in meeting Aspies in their local area besides me, not parents of small children with Autism/Asperger's.

Perhaps a group specifically for adaults w/ Autism Spectrum could branch off from the established ones. Tho you could probably help some of those kids even when you are not getting much help, maybe.

P.S. Nice avatar.

We had a group here in Vegas, but it was still kinda stressful for me. It was for young adults, but most of them still brought parents.

I'm not sure that forum software is the right software to use for fulfilling the need for meeting people in your local area. I know that there is software that would fulfill this need, while being well organized and easy to use, but off the top of my head I don't know what the name is.

Yeah, those are the ones I tried but never again. You can tell that parents of small children run them by just reading these descriptions.

You people in the UK have it much better than American's with Asperger's. We are behind on it, and hardly anybody here has ever heard of it!

Haha, I remember reading those group descriptions when I lived in San Antonio. You'd think that the 7th largest city in the US would have at least 1 group for adults with AS.
