introduction

Just wanted to introduce myself.

I am an aspie from a long line of aspies.

50+ years old male

married to a nt

have an 8 yo son who is clinical aspergers

have a 5 yo son who is mostly NT (still has a few genetic traits but very social)

Brother, father, 2 nieces are definitely sub–clinical aspersers

Definite indications back at least 1 more generation.

Oh by the way from my perspective aspergers (and really all spectrum characteristics) are something you are not something you have. I was surprised to see it still referred to like a disease in the sign in information on this site.

Yea I have more than a little “attitude” and some very strong opinions.

I always shock new people at different aspergers groups when I tell them that I would have been very disappointed to not have at least 1 aspie child.

I am well read in most technical areas and since my son is dealing with the system I have become extensively versed in the clinical area of aspergers and IDEA.

Oh yea I am from the USA

I guess that is enough for the initial intro.

I am 49 diagnosed with aspergers last year, but there has alway been lots of differences in our family from geniuses to oddballs! only beginning to understand now, my older son was diagnosed recently also and to be honest no surprise, as we have a kind of special understanding, have always been able to understand each other where others just do not seem to have a clue..

So I do understand where your coming from when you say.

Me and my son are both very happy and proud to be on the spectrum and do not view it as a bad thing.

My husband and younger son, still to decide!

I agree with you. Even though I didn't know what aspergers was when I first had kids, I'd have been a little sad if I didn't get at least one with similar traits to me.

Now, of course, I understand that my traits are aspergers.
