Questions About You...
Hi I'm new here so I'll answer the questions Enigma put up...
What is your first name? Darren
Age: 29
Location: Warrington, UK
Hobbies and Interests: Computers, Scouts, Acting, Drama, Wales (would so love to live there), collecting car stickers (my bedroom windows full of them - I've nearly got a full set of "Bauer radio group" car stickers from all the stations that are owned by them (oddly enough each sticker is the identical yellow fractal splat with the different stations name underneath it!)), Amatuer radio (have a licence but very rarely go on it as I can't cope with the multiple conversations and "breaking-in" to conversations - so sometimes use it for UI-View), Radio broadcasting (have been known as DJ-Aspie on Radio Freedom, and have also read the news on Preston FM), going to WAspS meetings (Warrington Asperger's Society), I completed my Duke of Edinburgh's Gold award a few years ago, visiting various places, Going to international scout camps,
Why are you here?
Have Asperger's Syndrome and ADHD
When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): 2003
Favorite subjects: Maths, Computers, Programming, Science (if they got rid of the chemical bits - I don't like messing with dangerous chemicals!)
Year/Grade: Completed a HND at Preston University
Favorite music: The KLF (hey it's in my name - TheKLF99 - btw in case your wondering why 99 it's because The KLF based themselves a lot on the illuminatus trilogy - it's kind of similar to the story of atlantis - and one thing they released was a song called "Justified & Ancient", and according to The KLF in the land of Mu the Mu Mu Mates and the children still cry out "Make Mine A '99" - referring to the "'99" ice cream (an ice cream with a Cadbury's flake stuck in it) (actually not many people say to the ice cream man, make mine a 99 any more I reckon we should go back to that - quick lets start a petition!). They also give out free '99 ice creams in Liverpool to promote the song (from an ice cream truck they'd acquired - they were great at acquiring things - actually considering how the KLF behaved as a group it wouldn't suprise me if one of the people in The KLF didn't have Asperger's 'cos they behaved very withdrawn and would very rarely talk to people like the Press unless it was in an over-staged manner, but were also very eccentric and did some really funny and controversial things (normally things that people would say they'll do but wouldn't - like burning 1 million pounds on the Isle of Jura and setting up "The Rites of Mu" - a media event to promote their album whereby they took journalists onto an island in Scotland and stamped their passports with the "Pyramid Blaster" symbol on arrival!! ! And their very strong obsession with the illuminatus trilogy and the numerical meanings hidden in the book - such as 99 and 23 (yes the number 23 - btw, the illuminatus trilogy is suppossed to be a mythical book based on the illuminati)
Books: Harry Potter, The Manual - How To Have A Number One by Bill Drummond (aka The KLF), Chris Moyles - The Gospel According to Chris Moyles (Chris is such an amazing DJ on Radio 1 and when reading his book I was so suprised about the things I used to do which were so much like him - I first got interested in radio broadcasting by phoning up WFMR in Warrington and ending up on air on a competition, and then every time there was a competition I kept calling the station up just to win, I didn't care what I won, it was just a buzz from being on the radio, and at Red Rose Jamboree I got on air as a member of the IT team being interviewed, and then finally I got a big break - reading the news for Preston FM, Preston's local community radio, which comes back on air in about September/October with a full-time licence (at present they only have an RSL licence) - Actually the way I got involved with Preston FM was by buying tickets to Radio 1's Big Weekend in Preston from eBay and seeing Preston FM there (ok the tickets to R1's big weekend were "non-transferrable", but it was worth it!).
TV shows/Movies: Harry Potter, Ace Ventura, iMax films, 3D films
Instrument: Octamed (Amiga/PC based music program with notation editor - it's called Octamed as when it was made for the Amiga it managed to split the 4-track sound of the Amiga up to 8-track (Oct), prior to doing this it was just called Med.)
Do you like sports? Does sports on the computer count or Crazy Golf and Pool, can't stand watching sports though it's too boring - my attention span isn't long enough!
Family: mum, dad (very possibly AS/ADHD - undx), 2 sisters (slight autistic traits, not AS though)
Clothing: Just love T-shirts with logo's on them (tempted to order one of the comedy "ADHD" t-shirts but think that might be just advertising my problems too much!)
How did you find this website? Wikipedia, looked up Asperger's Syndrome on Wikipedia.
Job: Temporary job working for United Utilities.
Plans for the future? Hoping to apply to work in the R&D or New Media section of BBC Media City in Salford, or getting heard by some other radio station when doing my spot on either Radio Freedom or Preston FM, like maybe Radio City, or Rock FM.
Any comments?
