Hello there,

My name is Lillyth, and I am the mother of a newly diagnosed eight year old boy. My son was diagnosed with ADD and Asperger's last Monday.

I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed by everything.

After a few days of deliberation, my husband and I decided to follow the advice of our PDoc at the Amen Clinics, and try him on the 20 mg/day of Geodon. The theory is to train his brain in the 3-4 weeks he is on it, then take him off it & hopefully never need meds again. I swore I'd never medicate my child, but the idea of a short term thing somehow seemed different to me, and well, an acceptable idea.

I'm also feeling overwhelmed, because the more I read about Asperger's, the more I see myself.

The stupid things I say sometimes, the hyper-intelligence, also the super-sensitivity.

The SPECT scans also show he has food allergies - we have already cut out gluten & dairy from our diets, geez what else IS there left for my poor kid to eat? I cannot tolerate soy, and most of the foods that allow him to feel like a "normal" kid have soy, so I sure hope it's not that.

Anyway, HI :D

Food allergies are the worst, aren't they? :( I had a friend once who was allergic to onions, peppers, mushrooms, and nuts. He had to be careful of everything. And getting waitstaff in restaurants to understand was difficult at best. I can't imagine being allergic to soy. What do you eat?! It's in everything!! 8O

Welcome to WP, and good luck with your son! :)

Welcome :)

Food allergies are a tough challenge all by themselves!

Mostly I eat meat, veggies & fruit. All prepared myself. It totally sucks. Like I said, I hope for Adam's sake (that's my son) that he is not allergic to soy. One of his favorite foods is yogurt, so we had to switch to soy yogurt. If he has to stop eating that, and the GF waffles/pancakes (they have soy), I think his head might implode from deprivation! 8O

Onions & mushrooms, huh? Now THAT I don't think I could handle - those are two of my favorite foods!

I took the aspie test that I found a link to in some other thread - I score a 167, so chances are pretty strong I am indeed aspie too.

I also LOVE that there is a forum area for kids.

I'm going to sing my son up for an account in a few minutes here so he can connect with other aspie kids.

He seemed SO excited about it when I told him. "You mean, like YOU do?"
