Hello All,
I'm new to this community. About 3 or 4 years ago, my psychiatrist suggested I have Aspergers, but I never really took him seriously. I talked to my mom about it, and she said, "OH NO... You're my little boy! You don't have it." Since graduating from college, while I have kept a couple jobs, I had so much trouble. In college, there is a defined amount of knowledge to know, and you can "manageably" learn that to become successful. But in the working world, you can have all the expertise and knowledge and have a great work ethic, but if you don't have social skills and you have so much trouble reading people, you are at a significant disadvantage. I was even passed up for a promotion, which was really hard. But oh well!
A little bit about me: I graduated from USC with a BA in Communication. I worked for two years at Neilsen NRG (for 3 months and 3 weeks... had trouble working with clients), and then moved to CBS where I was a research analyst. I decided I had enough with the fricken real world, and decided to enroll in school. I am currently a Master's student at University of San Diego. I am in their counseling program. I'm having a lot of doubts about this because of my limited "empathy." I'll be able to really work with people who have AS, but will have a hard time with people who are... how should I put this... neurotypical.
So we'll see. I'll probably talk about this stuff as I learn more about the world of AS and meet new people!
